Ratings by Veeve, Back by Popular Demand, on Vacay in the lovely Savannah, Georgia. This beer is found on tap at the MoonRiver restaurant and brewing site on Bay Street in Savannah, GA. This beer was my 2nd favorite personally but obviously objectively the best beer among the 7 beers of the sampler they were offering yesterday 5/22/08 and likely among all their beers as it is strikingly impressive. The description of this beer on the menu said: "Close your eyes, take a sip and think chocolate. Case in point - not all dark beers have to be sharp and bitter. Don’t be afraid of the dark." Well I AM CERTAINLY NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK. This beer is fantastic. Though it is bitter (despite the menu’s description), especially towards the finish, and in the aftertaste, it blends in perfectly with the overall balance of all the flavors and is not overwhelming. It has good lacing, two parallel lines broken up in light weak paisleys. good darker brown ring around the rim. dark brown sugar/coke hue. milk chocolate, coffee, bitterness. delicious.

Jun 29, 2009 Dark brown. Lots of coffee, with some chocolate and a hit of vanilla. Good medium mouthfeel.

May 8, 2009 WBF sample. Pours a dark black with a one finger creamy tan head. The nose is coffee, roasty, grainy, some bitter chocolate. The flavor is roasty, grainy, some chocolate/coffee, strange peanut shell flavor. The palate is a bit thin, roasty.

May 7, 2009 Sample from Raleigh WBF. Dark brown pour with small light brown ale. Light coffee and roasty chocolate notes. Unremarkable, but not bad.

Mar 27, 2009 En fût. Verre de dégustation directement à la brasserie. Arôme: Odeur de café avec une pointe chocolatée. Apparence: La couleur est brune-noirâtre. Présence d’un mince col beige mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de café avec une pointe de chocolat et de caramel. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement onctueuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Légère présence de café en arrière goût. (Rating #2255)

Feb 9, 2009 Medium-dark brown. Nice chocolate nose with light nuts. Smooth, chocolate taste. Full body. Nice bit of toast dries out the finish a bit.

Feb 6, 2009 Nearly opaque black-brown. Slight diacetyl in aroma and also slight huskiness. Some chocolate. Low carbonation. Rich roasted chocolate malt lingers on the tongue. Coffee flavors predominate but the huskiness detracts.

Feb 3, 2009 Decent porter, but another boring beer from mooon river. Not watery, which was nice, but not creamy and full bodied either. Lightly dry taste and finish. Light coffee and nut taste. Could have used something else in the taste.

Dec 5, 2008 From a sampler on 10/25/08. Dark in appearance. Cocoa and coffee aroma. Taste was of roast malt and cocoa with a touch of bitterness. One of their better offerings.
