Commercial Description:
Our wit beer (white beer) is an old style Belgian ale, brewed with wheat and barely , and spiced with Curacao bitter orange peel and coriander. The coriander and orange zest are detectable in the beer's aroma with a lingering, yet subtle "orangeiness." A unique one of a kind brew!
Moon River earned four medals at the 2005 Georgia Craft Brew Challenge hosted by Georgians for World-Class Beer. On Nov. 5, more than 200 lucky people packed the Biergarten at Atlanta’s 5 Seasons Brewing Company to taste the best beers made in Georgia. During the blind judging session, judges evaluated 35 beers and deemed:
• Belgian Ale Category: 1st Place - Wild Wacky Wit

Pours hazy yellow, nice white head. Nice spicy aroma, flavor is the same strong orange peel taste that wasn’t bitter, touch of coriander, and lemon. Hops come through with just the right bitterness. Malts tasted really good it left a biscuity aftertaste. Light, easy, just an awesome beer from my favorite style, don’t see why it’s not rated higher it’s dead on with the style.

Ratings by Veeve, Back by Popular Demand, on Vacay in the lovely Savannah, Georgia. This beer is found on tap at the MoonRiver restaurant and brewing site on Bay Street in Savannah, GA. This was my personal favorite among the 7 beer sampler they offer, though I don’t think it is the highest quality beer they have. That would be the porter. However, this beer is light, citrus, with a touch of grass. Its a soft mouthfeel. a perfect spring/summer refreshment. This was the only beer I chose to have a full pint full of after I sampled all 7. While the description of this beer stated it was "exotic" and "a party in your mouth" I did not find it to be crazy explosive with flavor but more subtle and softly-strong; more sweet, earthy and delicious.

Tap at brewery. Sweet orange/lemon and coriander aroma. Cloudy pale yellow with minimal head. Sweet orange and lemon flavor - lightly musty. On the sweet side but an excellent beer.

Quite a substantial amount of orange in this wit - at the expense of being a little less spicy than some (a plus in my book). The tanginess is sensed in the aroma, and carries all the way through. The palate was rounder and more complex (chunky wheat almost comes through asa solid) than most of this style - a winner indeed.

On tap at Moon River Brewing on 5/17/08. Pours a cloudy, bright yellow with thin white head that clings to the sides of the glass. Aroma is of citrus and lemon. Taste is slightly sweet, lemony, hints of coriander, with a somewhat medium to light body. Beer is smooth with a slighty watery but otherwise pleasant finish. Nice witbier.

Pours a light, cloudy gold with a thin white head. The aroma was wheaty with some citrus and orange zest. The flavor was excellent and appropriate for the style - sweet malts, lots of chewy wheat, a nice citrus tone from orange peel, with a subtle background of spice (coriander and yeast). The finish was medium in body with an after-taste of sweet orange. Very nice - especially on a hot day in Savannah.

Pale yellow with appropriate cloudiness and a nice, white head. The coriander and orange are pronounced and create a very pleasant aroma. The body is fairly dry and refreshing with a slight bit of tartness in the end. A very tasty witbier. Easily in the top tier of the style.

Draught and cask samples at the brewpub. Cloudy lemon-gold with a bit more head on the CO2 version....succulent aroma of lemon zest, coriander, lilac and honeysuckle, very floral and strong (less so in cask version)....body dry, rather yeasty, with lots of lemon oil towards the finish, light spicing....low, tingly carbonation....cask version is a bit fuller in body, and a bit more delicate and subtle but in this case perhaps too much so, rather duller than the bright CO2 version and with a much weaker aroma....rating is for regular tap version, cask would be about .3 lower overall.
