It is golden with a big, thick white head that lasts for a long time, slowly diminishing to a smaller, foamy head that leaves fairly good lacing. The aroma is malty grain, bread, somewhat sweet with definite piney hops lingering in the back. The taste is malty, bready, with some nut and a pronounced piney hop bitterness soon coming through to balance out the grain sweetness. It has a crisp finish and a long, nice grain/biscuit/nut aftertaste. It is refreshing and crisp, but flavourful, with some complexity, both a good lightly toasted malt and a piney hop bitterness being very prominent. The balance is nice. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2008 On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into a big pilsener glass. Clear golden amber color with two fingers of tan head. Nice thick lacing and substantial retention. Aromas of bread and caramel malt with some hop citrus that melds nicely. Flavor is bready with some lactic character. A touch of caramel malt and a nice piney hop finish with moderate bitterness. Kinda of like an overhopped Boston Lager. Great balance, perfect carbonation, semidry finish, excellent drinkability. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2007 (from notes) pint is a hazy gold with a nice white head that laces nicely. aroma is both pleasant and complex - a bunch of different grainy and grassy notes from the malts, mixed with a wonderful herbal hop kick and some nice toasty notes. very nice flavor - interesting but drinkable - with a great interplay between the grains and the hops. finishes dry and not too bitter. great lager - easy to drink, but with a nice degree of complexity. beastiefan2k (1605), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Draft at a restaurant in San Fran. Its not too clean golden color with some visible carbonation. Aroma is lightly hoppy (lightly herbal), and just clean light malts with a hint of fruity lagerness. The flavor losses the lager fruitiness, which is good. There is beautiful white bread malts with just a bit of herbal hops and a touch of bitterness at the end. Its just beautifully balanced. kmweaver (2489), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Draft @ Flavor. Pours a clear, tarnished golden color; fluffy off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing; nice pour. Very light nose showing a touch of reserved mineral bitterness alongside touches of honey and toastiness. Lively carbonation. Medium mouthfeel: zesty mineral and herbal bitterness coupled to a toasty breadiness, very dry and crisp presence; refreshing, zesty hops and bubbles on the tip of the tongue; hints of green olives. A beautifully sessionable pils. Lengthy finish: toasted malts, light breadiniess, and a long, long, lasting mineral bitterness. AgentSteve (1379), SF Bay Area, California, USA
