Draft @ Toad in the Hole. Pours a dark, cola-brown color; very light cocoa-colored head with lacing that coats the glass like paint; nice pour. Nicely dry, roasted aroma: cocoa, bitter chocolate, and heavily roasted malts; very bitter, but not necessarily from a hop note; heavily bittered roast. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lively bitterness, minerals, roasted malts and bitter dark chocolate; tastes almost bittersweet, like it could perpetually stand to breathe a little; tight carbonation, sharp bitterness; the juicy mineral and citrus hoppiness becomes more prominent as it warms, outshining the bitter chocolate core. Lasting, bitter mineral hops, bitter chocolate; perfectly dry, as always.

On tap at toronado. Black with a fizzy white head. Faint roasty aroma. Burnt roasty taste with a good bitter bite. Good.

Draught at The Trappist. Black with a tan head. Piney hops and roasty aroma. Great dark chocolate flavor with a strong piney and citrucy hop flavor as well. THey said this was an English style winter warmer and I have to agree that there was nothing Belgian about it. This walks a fine line of dark malt and hop flavor combinations, but the chocolate flavors go quite well with the hops.

Good looking stout. Though strong, the alcohol was masked by the smoky malt flavors. And the hops were quite well balanced, floral and a bit spicy.

(on-tap @ Cato’s) pint is a not overly dense, ruby-tinted black poured in a very full glass so no head, but a tan film hangs in there and leaves good lace. prominant floral hop nose on top of a very pretty chocolate maltiness. flavor is full of creamy dark malt character, blended with a spicy, floral hoppiness. nicely balanced, easy to drink beer. I would have to say this is not a belgian-style ale in any sense.

On draught at HopYard. Pours an opaque dark brown with a lasting tan head. Very rich, creamy mouthfeel and surprisingly big body. Rich malty flavor with a slight molasses character. Slightly dry finish and late hint of alcohol. Nice.

aroma is devilish. white lacing remains on glass walls. flavor is molty, hoppy and bitter. leaves a clear well balanced bitterness on the palate.
