On draft at Jupiter (from summer..but easy to remember) ruddy brown with just a halo of tan foam. Malt and mineral aroma. Malt-forward balanced character with cocoa as well spruce notes I’d associate with wet hops. Moderate carbonation and a somewhat slick body. Complicated by a long astringent finish one might get from Chinook in the kettle. Remarkable, even more so since it was brewed without hops.

Poured from tap at Sonoma Wine exhange a dark reddish brown with large white head. Nose is quite floral hoppy with some grain and caramel notes. Flavor is lightly smoked, with some green leaf vegetable (was told it was redwood tips as well as hops), roasted grain, coffee, and maybe a dash of licorice. The palate is slightly sweet big malt mouthfeel that has a mild bitter finish with a green leafy touch (similar to pine). I like this one, different but good flavors and easy to drink.

On tap. Clear orangey brown with a rough beige head. Aroma of dried fruit, port and yeast. Medium body with sweet dried fruit and some yeast. Very subdued bitterness. 110709

Draft at Toronado: dark reddish brown. Aroma is sweet malts with caramel, chocolate, molasses, light smoke. Medium bodied but very drinkable. Not bad, starting to like this brewer’s offerings.

Draft. Bronze color with an off-white head. Rich malt aroma with ligh grass and herbs. Malty, cocoa, herbal, grassy flavor. Medium body. Lingering cocoa, malt, herbal tones, and grass. Very drinkable.

Coca-Cola brown beer, with neary no head. Coffee nose, soft-roasted coffee beans, sweetish. Very dry woody, tad fruity, very roasted, and really not hoppy! Coffee returning in the finish, and pine. Not very well-bodied, well-carbonated, slick. Very special, and an unbelievable treat to have it here in Belgium! Thanks, CK!

From tap flavour. Pours hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is roasted caramel and light Belgian yeasty. Subdued sweet and spiced yeasty flavoured. Mild phenolic and roasted finish.

Draught at The Red. Dark brown with some red tinting and a beige head. Malty caramel and light toast aroma with a fresh woody quality. I guess this is redwood, right? The flavor has a lightly sweet maltiness with tome toasty grain, light chocolate, and light bitterness that seems to be coming from the redwood. A little on the watery side, but a decent mouthfeel. Being my first and possibly only encounter with redwood in my beer, I’m not really sure what to think here, though this was definitely a competent creation. It might be lacking refinement, but I can see this going places in the future.
