Cask @ Battersea Beer Festival ’08. Colour is a murky dark brown / black with beige head. The aroma is dominated by a nice smoky, chocolate, coffee & roasted malts blend. The taste is of dark fruits, chocolate, coffee. Some slight alcohol on the palette but this fades to leave a pleasant smoky, malty finish. A well made beer that’s worth trying.

cask @ Battersea Beer Festival 2008. Really full force chocolate and coffee aroma with hints of roasted malt in the background. Pours a pitch brown beer with a small beige head. Body is medium and oily. Taste is very chocolatey with hops also coming to the fore, coffee, malt are strong flavours too. Finish is very smokey with a hint of caramel. Overall fantastic although it is not that complex.

Comments: A pretty gorgeous smelling old ale whose palate does not deserve the same claims, heading in too many directions at once.

Cask GBBF London, Dark brown. Vinous, raisiny sweetness dominates. There is a madeira cake richness in here fighting to get through but the sugar overpowers. Some bitter chocolate in the finish.

(Cask at GBBF, London, 8 Aug 2007) Very dark brown, almost black colour with brief pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with dried fruit and chocolate. Slightly vinous with hints of port. Fruity, slightly roasted taste with notes of dried fruit (raisins, prunes), fruitcake and a long sweetish finish with lots of dried fruit and chocolate. Absolutely delicious and beautiful. My favourite at the festival this year.
