Cask, GBBF 2007. Black with no head. Nose is nailpolish remover, some sweet malty dark fruit. Mouth is sweet dry maltiness with sweet plum. Palate is sweet and fruity. Quite nice.

(GBBF 07) Stout-like in appearance. Slightly creamy scent with a hint of smoke. Excellent mouthfeel. Smokey dry end but neither particularly bitter nor sweet: Bitter berry fruit mix well with a sugary alcohol kick. Doesn’t taste as strong as it is, though.

A Mes rate: Gravicask @ Planet Thanet. Black and oily with nothing much going on in the head department. Chunky aroma of dark chocolate and caramel malt with a slight sour note and some dusty hops. More of the same in the flavour but the malt is so lovely and creamy once it is in the mouth. There is a tangy sweetness too plus some slight harshness from the alcohol but it is not unpleasant by any means, just gives it some bite. Dryish bitter sweet finish with superb length. A GREAT start to the day.

[Cask at Troon Beer festival] Big complex aroma of chocolate, tobacco, oak, slightly roasted, deep fruity character, some acidity. Full body, malt blooms on the palatelots more oak, very long, dry, vinous finish with a good dose of tartness.

Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Festival Sat 18th Feb. A very dark chocolatey rich old ale, very nice! slight head, a bit sticky, but most drinkable despite the strength.

Cask Stillage at the Town Hall, Stockport 31/05/2001 A dark coloured old ale strong in alcohol. Some fruitiness and a slightly woody aroma.
