Aroma is lightly floral with lemon, yeast, and a touch of banana. Flavor is kind of weak, some peppery clove spiciness followed by tart lemon acidity. Thin body, lots of carbonation. nearbeer (1878), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Nearly opaque red-brown with a medium and lasting, sticky head. Aroma is metallic caramel malt. Flavor is toasted bitter nut, sour caramel, bitter cocoa, sour corn, tart acidic fruit, cardboard. Light body is frothy-sloshy, watery, and astringent. What a disappointing mess. durhambeer (1229), Durham, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Dark brown pour with nice white head. Surprisingly not hazy. Fruity nose, wheaty taste. A little malt on the palate, but a somewhat sour/metallic finish. Feels a little weak on the palate, watered down. Easy to drink. Nothing special, but really not bad. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2008 0.5L bottle poured brown with a slight haze and weak off white to tan head. The aroma is a bit light and yet distinctively fruity with Concord grape jam, black currents and boysenberry. If there is a malt or wheat note in there somewhere it’s really faint. The taste is just like the aroma but includes mild tart acidic fruitiness before a tepid level of malts rise up at the finish in the face of the stronger dark fruity notes. It seems to become roasty with a dash of chocolate malts into the finish and a bit beyond. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 13, 2008 Labelled as Schwarze Weisse. Medium beer bottle brown with a huge, slightly off white head. The aroma is lightly sour with some apples and leather. This reminds me of apple scented soap. The taste has some tart apples with a little bit of molasses. Some nice notes of leather show in the finish. As it warms, you get some annoying Sweet Tarts. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Pour is a dark hazy brown with a large white head. Aroma is a very sweet brown sugar molasses combo. Flavor is sub par. Some dirty malts show up but not much else. Finish is watery and weak. Not as bad as some have said on here and Im sure its much better in Germany. FatPhil (3483), Espoo, Finland

Very dark, very lively with a big and soap-frothy head - self supporting, and after the initial pour it’s pretty tight. Banana, and some dense spicy aroma - promises good things. Good carbonation in the mouth, but on the excited side. Unfortunately, the promises from the aroma aren’t delivered in the taste. There is a very pleasant wheaty hefe taste, but just as you’re swallowing something odd jumps out. Unfortunately I can’t identify it; it’s not ’vegetably’, but it’s definitely ’organic’, part of it is muesli grain, perhaps. There’s also the spiciness back again - something not sharp or aromatic, but dark and almost, pungent. I didn’t find this particularly sweet, unlike other reviewers. Perhaps this is one where the quality varies.
