Commercial Description:
The caramel & aromatic Munich malts used in this medium-bodied, amber-colored ale gives it a smooth drinkability & sweet, malty finish.

Starting in 2004, the Dells Chief Amber Lager recipe was converted to use ale yeasts, creating this new beer. This Dells Chief Amber Ale permanently replaces the Dells Chief Amber Lager.

On tap at brewpub. Pours amber with white head. Aroma is malt with caramel and nuts. Flavor is sweet with caramel malts and some nuts. Palate is smooth and creamy for an amber ale. Not to bad.

Sampled on draught: Poured a bright amber colour with a medium sized frothy white head. Caramel and raisiny notes on the palate. Soft chewy fruit- something like grapes. Aroma is ok, a little dull- sweet malts on the nose."

On tap at brewery, sampler flight. Color is semi-clear coppery, with a tan head clinging to the rim of the glass. Mild malty nose. Thick in mouth with caramel and nutty malt flavors. Sweet and rich. Probably the best all-around beer I had at the brewery.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/22/07: Clear amber bronze color has a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Sweet grainy caramel malty aroma has some toasty notes. Body starts fairly sweet and has some earthy hop flavor, but needs some more balance and has almost a soapy floral off-flavor.

On tap at the brewpub in Wisconsin Dells, pours a clear light brownish amber with a fast dissolving off-white head. Lacing is average. Aroma of toffee, multi-grain bread, some roasted nuts and brown sugar. Taste is creamy, smooth, no carbonation and texture like a scotch ale. Finish is clean with hardly any aftertaste.

Light brownish amber color. Smell of malt, caramel, toffee, nuts and sugar. Taste of alcohol, roasted nuts, malt, honey and spice. I like this a lot. goes down good with there excellent beer cheese soup!

On-tap @ the Brewpub. Light brown color with orange highlights. Aroma is mostly toffee malts and some subtle fruits as well. In addition to the toffee/caramel flavor is a subtle fruit aspect which didn’t really do anything for me. The lack of any hop flavor is a bit disappointing, and leads to it being a bit too sweet for my taste, but the caramel malts are still tasty. Not one of the best beers from this brewpub.
