| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Walnut color with a thin head. Taste of chesnuts and some malty sweetness. Has a rotten wood flavor that I don’t like and have tasted in several of this style elsewhere. Least favorite of 6 I tried. JMerritt (1321), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 5, 2005 On tap at the brewpub. Dark amber in color with a medium-sized white head. Thick lacing. Caramel, juniper, rye and raspberry aroma is rather light. Definite berryness in the flavor, along with more rye, chicory and a fair amount of butterscotch. Medium-high carbonation. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 5/5 | 8/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Beautiful amber color. No visible carbonation as is the case with most of Moosejaw’s beers. Ring of off-white head. Roasted malt flavor with some caramel notes. Very soft. Too soft. No bite. Easy drinking. More alcohol and a hoppier bite would help. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 14, 2005 Transparent caramel brown with an admirable tan/grey head. Aroma is honey bread, brown sugar and hazelnuts, although it’s fairly reserved. Irish red-like nuttiness and malt complexity. A pleasant surprise and nice deviation from this brewery’s paler beers. Caramel, toffee chews, pumpernickel bread and a mixed bag of nuts round out the flavoring. Well-executed and modest beer. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 30, 2005 Amber with no head. Nose is rusty but barely present. Lots of malts and an almost formaldyhyde character in the alcohol presence. Drinkable but nothing interesting really. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 29, 2005 Dark amber color with a small off white head. Again serve near sub-zero temperatures. Very light toffee and mild fruit aromas. Flavors of toffee with peaches and cream. Somewhat interesting, but like most ambers unremarkable. An easy quaff.
