Deep mahogany color and a nice tan head of foam that leaves sheets of lacing behind it. Aroma of dark chocolate and toasted munich-style malts.
Light roasted malt flavor for bitterness and some rich chocolate in the flavor. Nutty aspect reminded me a lot of a rich nut brown ale. Medium-to-full bodied and quite smooth.
Says on the menu that this won a Silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival. I can see why. argo0 (7029), Washington DC, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 17, 2005 Deep, translucent cherry black in color with a lovely, dark creamy tan head. Burnt chocolate manifests in the aroma, interspersed with Coca Cola. Rich, nutty chocolate take a robust step forward in the flavor profile. Caramel currents and milk chocolate brownies contribute as well. Palate feel is appreciated - creamy, medium-bodied and easy going as a dunkel should be. Good to see a brewpub doing an above par rendition of the style. kms399 (267), plymouth, Minnesota, USA

Grapy-chocolaty nose, smooth cocoa body, fairly full; chewy, late robustness, a great "dark" session beer. CaptainCougar (5544), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Sweet, doughy dark caramel malty nose has some grainy Munich malt character.
