Amber color. The fresh hop aroma you get right off the bat is great, and I was told all the hops used are locally grown...nice. A solid use of caramel malts, but the hops take over from there and lead to a great, smooth brew that is certainly hop-driven.
I asked the bartender if there were any plans to bottle their beers in the near future, and he actually said they are planning to bottle the Kilbourn Hop Ale soon. Assuming that’s done, it’ll start very local for sure, but it’d be nice to see this one out in stores for more people to try.
Overall impression..this is a very good, hoppy pale ale. You can’t stop at this place and not try this one. troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA

I’m not a big IPA fan, but this brew was refreshing and very drinkable. Would definitely drink again. Bockyhorsey (2546), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Medium bodied hop bite and bitterness. Cool and crisp on the palate. A good refreshing brew. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2006 First off - this is NOT an IPA - I’d call it a brown ale, the brewery calls it an amber. This one one of the best I had of six. Nice head that laced well. Nutty and a bit bitter. The local hops taste English to my palate. A hoppy brown, but too malty for an IPA. Amber with nice beige head. Aroma has decent pine hop aroma. Big hop kick in flavor right off the bat, maybe a little unbalanced, but drinkable. Servers told me this was a "hopped up amber"? hmmm... | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 24, 2005 The nose definitely has a hop presence but is well balanced. Clear, dark amber body. No visible carbonation. Creamy lace and head. Nice mouthfeel. Hops are clearly there, as is the malt. Well balanced as the nose predicted. Strongish with a bite. Some flaws but not glaring. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2005 Bright clear copper in color with a creamy tan head. Nice hop profile greets the nose along with some honey and ginger. Upfront pine and grass flavor characteristics. Dry and encompassing on the palate. Thins out slightly in the finish but this one can stand on its own. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA

Nose is hoppy and the taste is just about the same with some good malt character to it. Imagine a good IIPA but tone everything down about 50 fold and that is what this is. There is a good balance and is very drinkable.
