Clear amber with virtually no head. The flavor is mostly sweet with a light bitterness. Full bodied almost syrupy mouth feel with very mild carbonation. This is a very drinkable Barley Wine, the alcohol is balanced well with the sweetness of the malt and the mild hop character. AmEricanbrew (1838), Washington DC, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 8, 2006 @ Great Alaskan Barleywine Festival ’06. Beer fest guide has 2003 vintage listed, though in my notes I wrote 2002. Good nose, sweet. Fruity, fig, date, raisin. Not the hops that some noted. Hazy orangy brown color. big head that faded. Bitter flavor, fruity, like aroma. Some orange also. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish. Tasty, easy to drink BW. ANother in a line of beers I would like to try fresh as I’m not sure it needed to be aged. PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 9, 2004 Had on tap at the brewpub in Anchorage. Dark ruby red appearance with a tight off-white head. Aroma of dates and brown baked bread and a wee bit of alcohol. Mouthfeel is silky smooth, and the alcohol is hidden quite well. Flavor is well balanced between the malt and hops. Raisins and dates and brandy make their way in on the malty side while the hoppy side offers up some sweet grapefruity notes. Very good barley wine for a brewpub.
