This was just bad. It looked fine, had a decent aroma, but the flavor said the beer was either off or they need to clean their lines. Didn’t like it. Didn’t really care to finish it.

I am not really sure what they were going for here, but this does not really seem very true to style. Just a little hoppier than I would expect for the style and I know that typically these are generally the hoppiest beers in Germany, but this was not what I was expecting. Lightly roasted malt, butterscotch and caramel, with hints of dried fruit. This is not of the better beers I have tried today.

Draught at Morgan St. Pours clear amber with a small, frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, cereal), light hops (grass), average yeast (sweat) with notes of butter. Light bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

On draught at the brewpub. This beer is a clear reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing. Lightly toasted malt and hops in the nose. Light-bodied and moderately bitter (moreso than I am used to for an Alt) with hops and some roasted malt. The finish is hoppy with a bit of malt and fruit in the aftertaste. Barely average overall.

From the brewery on 12/4/07. I liked this one, but not as much as the Vienna. Poured coppery color with a lacy head. Finally, HOPS from this brewery!

Part of a sample bunch, prior to the Packers/Rams game ( GO PACK!) Poured a decent copper/orangish color, aroma veruy inviting, with a roasted malt, maybe carmel. Taste was pretty light, a slight flavor of hops. I don’t have much experince with Alts, but it is easlily a session beer for me.

Sample #5 from the brew pub. Filtered and deep amber, al;most copper. Clinging off-white head. Medium to full bodied with a malty caramel sweetness. Then a bitter piney hop finish. Best of the night, but the Steam was more of a session. Walked out with a growler!

Sampled at St. Louis Microfest - Orange transparent beer with a very light head. Aroma had roasted caramel malts and light hops. Medium bodied beer with medium carbonation. At first there is a light roasted caramel malt, but it goes into an acidic metallic finish with a bit of spice hops. Not a very good example of the style.
