Commercial Description:
When there's snow on the ground, you'll see our famous Doppelbock on tap to warm you back up. Our strongest beer offers intense malt flavors and little or no hop aroma. This darker lager is definitely one to tackle over dinner.

Sampled at the St Louis Brewers Heritage Festival 2009. Areally good example of the style. I’ve always thought of Morgan as a little on the light weight approach to brewing, but this one is top notch. Definitely true to style with the sweet chewy toasted malt goodness of maple and caramel and just a little hops to balance. I’m impressed!

hmmmm, my second strong lager of the night, what is up with this lager drinking lately for me. dark with great clarity in the shaker glass in the brewpub. notes of chocolate and a carmelly sweetness, Not super strong tasting (could be more robust as some of the better doppelbocks are, so, for the style not so great but still a very satisfying beer!

At the brewpub. Served a little too cold. Dark brown body with a thin off white head. The aroma was sweetened iced tea with some caramel. The taste is light iced tea with light hints of Tootsie Rolls. A decent malty dopplebock with a little bit of a little bit of a bubblegum finish.

Lots of malt. Easy to drink yet not weak in flavor. Went great with a meal or standalone.

Part of a sample bunch, prior to the Packers/Rams game ( GO PACK!) My favorite of the bunch from these guys. Poured dark, with creamy head. Aroma smelled of fresh roasted malt. Tastes sweet (which I like in a dop), with more honey than the honey wheat I sampled. Didn’t notice the high carbanation others have said. Finishes with just a very, very slight taste of hops. A bit thinner than German dops, not a Celebrator, Optimator, or Maximator threat, but, is a nice, easy to drink, and maybe a session dopple.

On tap at the Parkville Microbrew Festival. Pours brown with an off-white head. Theres a pronounced sweetness discernable to this one, but little else.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark mahogany with a tight light tan. The aroma has sweet dark malts, honey and brown sugar. Medium body that starts lush and then ends sharp and grainy with some sharp carbonation - far too sharp for the style. The flavor starts with brown sugar and heavily toasted malt and some molasseses. The finish is grainy, spicy and spritzy. A fair example of the style.

Pale brown color that was nice and clear. The head was thin and white and offered up a bit of lacing. The aroma wasn’t that intriguing, too soapy. Would have liked more malt and some caramel or chocolate. The flavor was mild, non-offensive, almost struggling to find its identity. The malt was there but it failed to go anywhere. Another watery example from this place.
