Commercial Description: 61 IBUs of Cascade hops make this pale lager intensely bitter. 30 pounds of fresh, wet, Amarillo hops were added to the whirlpool and give a complex, grassy character. Finished with 8 more pounds of Cascade whole cone hops in the serving tank, this is one beer strictly for the hop lover.
On tap at Schlafly’s Fresh Hop Fest - Pours clear amber with an off-white head. The aroma has smooth toasted lager malt and some breadiness - very clean. This did not prepare me for the taste at all. Medium body that is very crisp with light sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with the malt from the aroma, but it is quickly overtaken by an onslaught of brutally bitter hops that also have some pininess. This is some of the most intensely bitter beer I’ve had - ones that claim to be well into the triple digits have NOTHING compared to this brutalization to the tongue. The finish is very dry, earthy and very very bitter. This is quite good, but there is not balance at all - hops dominate in this unlike any other I’ve had & I’ve had more than a few.
(draught - Fresh Hop Ale Festival at Schlafly Bottleworks) medium amber with decent head. Biscuit malt aroma with some hops. Nice grassy hops flavor with decent malt for balance - interesting for a lager.
