cazort (373), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 (On tap) I am not a big fan of this style, but I certainly say this was above-average quality for an American-brewed Oktoberfest. The malt was rich and had some complexity to it, and there was a hint of hops too; sometimes these beers irritate me by having no noticeable hops. Also, there was none of the unpleasant sourness that plagues many American-brewed "Oktoberfests"...instead there was a hint of coarse sourness that was a bit more complex. My main complaint was that this beer was perhaps a bit flat. The malt could have had more complexity and richness too; it was perhaps a bit thin. sneagrams3 (1453), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Oct 25, 2006 Sampler #2 from the Brew pub. Filtered and amber. Clinging thick off white head. Bready malty nose. Slight caramel aroma. Medium and slightly oily slick. Slight sour tart diactyl finish. Citrusy. Kinda blah. Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Oct 9, 2006 tap at Augusta bottoms beerfest-pours bright copper with a small off-white head. nose is grainy and lightly toasted. flavors are grainy but with a touch of spicy hops. really true to style here. finish is husky with some light spicy hops. not sweet but dry finish, which is different for the style. must have been from the decent amount of hops for this style. crisp and refreshing session lager here. vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 7, 2006 Sampled at Augusta Bottoms Beer Festival 2006. Pour copper with a thick off-white head. The aroma has toffee, caramel and grains. Medium body with light carbonation. The taste has grainy caramel malt with spicy hops. The finish gets spicier with the hops and the grains gets smoother. Much more hoppy than normal for the style and not nearly as sweet. Nice job.
