Commercial Description:
Pasteurised in bottles and nitro cans. Also available as "Smooth" from nitro tap.
Cask version was first brewed in 1979 by Morland Brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. The name comes from the MG factory’s works car - the gold speckled MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon, affectionately known as the Ol’ Speckl’d ’Un.
Brewed since 1999 by Greene King following the take-over of <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morland Brewery>Morland Brewery.

Nitro can. Pours medium coppery maber with a super creamy 2 finger eggshell head (nitro cascade effect and all) that has excellent retention and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is light biscuit, apple skins, toasted white bread, caramel, light citrus and floral hops. Flavor is apple skin, toast, light caramel, artificial toffee flavoring, thistle, mineral notes, and light earthy hops near the end. Finish is toast, spice, overripe apple and more earthy hops. Palate is light to medium bodied, slightly slick and has that typical-creamy but nearly flat feeling nitro texture. Not too bad overall, I wouldn’t mind trying a non nitro version.

Got this in an international beer assortment for Christmas. Surprisingly tasty to be honest. I was getting a Coors/Budweiser vibe from the can it came in, and was pleasantly surprised. The smell is a little offputting as it comes off cheap. The appearance is impressive, especially since little bubbles appear on the outside of my glass making it look like speckles (cute, I know). Anyway, flavor is okay there’s a strange fruitiness present that I can’t quite place (maybe banana or a berry), and a pretty bitter finish (not really a hops bitter, but not acrid booze bitter either). It’s definitely malty and yeasty, which unfortunately is not something I particularly enjoy, but I won’t hold it against it. In any case, this is a much better alternative to an American macro and if this is the UK version of Budweiser/Coors then us Yanks have to step up our game.

Pours a beauty: red gold with a guinness like head and lacing. Aroma is yeast, grapes, apples and bread. Flavor is flat bitter. Palate is thin, boring and lacks character. Overall, this a typical ESB where its dry and ashy.

Pours amber with a thin white head with decent lacing. Aroma is hops and malt with hints of citrus. Taste is very malty with a slight hops aftertaste. A good middle of the road ale.

This beer has an amber color and a very dry palate with a bitter dry aftertaste. This was not one of my favorites

Nitro tap. Pour is clear brown with a large thick, nitro head. Aroma is light malt, light hop and faint citrus. Flavor is nicely malty, faint bubblegum, light pepper, and a faint hop finish. Better than expected, had more character that I thought it would be.

bottle @ home. Pours an amber beer with a good head. Beer looks nice with a normal aroma. Taste is great. Really enjoyed this beer. Hints of caramel. Delicious beer. Deserves a higher rating on ratebeer.
