They left the elegant foral nose out of this bottle; lingering malty sweetness nails this beer for a three word review. leaparsons (4756), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

Aromas are sweet malty and nutty with some toffee. Flavours are nutty with sweet malts and some metallic hops. Some pepper. Easy to glug. Not bad. Cornfield (4981), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA

I don’t catch the "elegant happy floral nose" of the description. I smell mild sweet malts and a bit of nuttiness. Very smooth to drink, this has a solid nutty malt taste, slightly sweet, with a dash of floral hops in the finish. This would make a good session beer.

It’s April when I’m drinking this, and it seems like it would be better in the winter, but it is snowing now, so I guess it’s all good. The Ale is very mild highlandlad (1278), Sydney, Australia
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 19, 2005 Old Speckled Hen’s mild-mannered cousin. Poured a bronze colour with a short beige head. Has a similar nutty aroma to the Hen, with some fruit, a hint of the fireplace and faint wet cardboard. Initial taste impression is of sweet nutty malt, toffee... and a few seconds later it dawned on me that that was pretty much all there was going to be. It’s Speckled Hen without the fierce finish. There are some grainy hops in the finish but this is much more restrained. Thin to medium bodied but feels a little flat in the mouth. I suspect this is aimed at drinkers who find Speckled Hen too bitter to be sessionable. You could drink this all day, but there are more flavoursome options out there. It had a nice crisp hop aroma that was pleasing. However, the taste was very contradictory coming off as rather watered down. Maybe the clear bottle received to much exposure to the sun. I thought about drinking it in my brand new baseball glove. A little added flavor wouldn’t hurt this beer. Kind of steep on the pay check too, but pretty good. Color is a very light amber. Taste is very faint vanilla, then classic bitter finish. Ok I guess. Maybe somebody can help me out…. for some reason, I’ve had a taste for a very malty ale that is not very hopped. So I guess it would have a very sweet grainy taste. If you know of any suggestions, hit me up with a message.
