The Framboise Mort Subite is brewed according to the ancestral Lambic recipe. This original Belgian beer ferments spontaneously. Enhanced with raspberry juce it matures soft and slowly in oaken casks.

Bottle (330ml). Sampled at 2005 Toronto (Fort York) Festival of Beer. I needed this after the Scotch-Irish Marjor Misconduct - thirsty and hop-weary, I sought a refreshing, familiar bevvy. I had this several times my one and only time in Belgium (Bruges) but had not rated it yet. Poured a slightly hazy deep ruby-amber with a small slightly reddish-white head. Aroma - easy, ripe, fresh, non-artificial raspberries, with a bit of yeast, slightly dry-hopped, a nice sour tang on warming. Taste - again, fresh ripe raspberries, quite fizzy, with enough generic "white" beer essence to remind me it’s not marketed by Smirnoff. A very lively, tart and sticky mouthfeel. Incredibly refreshing - one to share with your lovely wife on a sunny patio whilst eating mild cheese and a croque monsieur.

Bottled. Orange-red colour with foamy white head, lacing. Sweet raspberries in aroma. Sweet and a bit dryish raspberryish flavour along with some hoppy bitterness. Long sweet raspberryish aftertaste.

Bottle. Red-brown colour hazy, with small quicly disappearing head. Strong sweet aroma of raspberries and cassis. Sweet-sour flavour of raspberries, quite mild, no strong aftertast.

375cl. bottle. Murky red/brown color with a small pink head. Surprisingly nice aroma of fresh raspberries. Sweet flavor of raspberry that wasn’t as strong as the aroma led me to believe. Mildly tart on the finish. I liked this much better than their gueuze.

(Bottle 25 cl) 5% ABV. As always I have these rather contradictory sentiments while drinking a Framboise: both fresh and cloying - and this is exactly what I feel about this. Cloyingly sweet with an underlying tartness. No worse than others of the same type, but rather perfumy. 030694

Poured orange-red with a light pink head. Aroma of fresh raspberries. Flavour is juicy raspberries with a slightly tart finish. Very refreshing, easy drinking framboise! Top stuff.

Bouteille LCBO Mai 2005.

Bottled, corked 375cl (BB 06/2006)
Rose-red hazy color, big creamy pink head, lace. Artificial rasberry aroma. Sour - sugary rasberry flavor. Quite drinkable but earthy notes in this lambic are quite lame.
