Commercial Description:
The Kriek Mort Subite is brewed according to the ancestral lambic recipe. This original Belgian beer ferments spontaneously. Enriched with cherries, it matures soft and slowly in oaken casks. To be served cool.

(Bottled) Hazy amberish red with a medium, pinkish, creamy and lacy head. Sourish aroma of vomit and cherries, which fades away in a while, leaving some cherry-raspberry aroma. Slightly sweet, quite dull cherry-wheaty flavor with some straw- and raspberries. Light to medium-bodied, neutral-sweetish palate with foamy carbonation. A quite tasteless and boring kriek - not a sugar bomb, but not tart and traditional, either.

Bottle of this at Waagstruk in Antwerp thought it was to sweet especially after having the Liefman’s Kriek on tap. Page 327 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 313 of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

Plenty going on here. Strikingly clear, red-amber pour for a Kriek. Rocky suds and layers of lace. Distinctly vinegary, woody cherry sourness in the nose. Not at all perfumey. Opens with a definite note of peaty, whiskeyish malt graininess. Tingling cherry sharpness in the middle, with a drawn-out, sweetly biscuity afternose. The malt whiskeyish flavours are at least as assertive as the Lambic. Strange and unprecedented.

I’m not quite sure about this. It’s almost like drinking lemonade. It’s got nice sour cherrylike taste and a nice fizzy mouthfeel. But it kindof tastes like an alcopop doesn’t it? The fact that it’s a real brew ofcourse rises the score, because to speak the truth, it’s not bad at all.

Bottled(375ml). –Pours a pale ruby coloured with small airy head and sourish cherry nose. Aroma of cherries and yeast with mild hoppy notes. Well balanced between sweet and sour. Not so sweet as I’ve expected, pleasant oak barell aftertaste.

(Bottle, BB 13-04-08) Pours a ruby body with a small light pink head. Aroma of cherries and corn syrup. Flavor of sweetness and then tartness from the cherries with a dry finish.
