chris_o (4395), London, Greater London, England May 5, 2008 Cask (handpump) at the Wenlock Arms, April 2008. A new brewery for me. According to the brewery website this is a November to February seasonal but they have presumably made this one a bit later. Very dark - almost black. Nice smooth malty aroma. Quite dry on the palate. Heavily roasted. Lots of chocolate. Really appealing roasty bitterness on the finish. A very impressive first encounter.
Ethereal (679), London, Greater London, England Jul 1, 2008 Cask at the Wenlock Arms, 19th April 2008, with Chris, Ian, Mes & the gang. Pure black with a little tan foam which leaves lacing. Strong aroma of blackcurrant and roast malt. Fruity on the tongue but with a great dry bitterness. The short finish is the only slight let down. A great stout. harrisoni (4725), Ashford, Kent, Kent, England Apr 25, 2008 Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms. Black with thin tan head. Very choccy, very bitter from the roasted malt. Some dryness. Slightly smokey. Good stout. Mes_and_Sim (3885), London, Greater London, England Apr 22, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock. Black as they come with no light penetration what so ever. Very thin tan head but good condition. Massive blackcurrant aroma with a sweet chocolate malt backing. Flavoour of roasty dark chocolate malt, good bitter coffee, a bit of rubber and a sweet yet dry finish. Very good. fonefan (4000), Ulfborg, Denmark Jan 27, 2008 Cask (handpump) @ Wellington, Birmingham B2, UK.
