Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Mar 26, 2006 Draught.
Head is fully lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate), with notes of pine needles, blackcurrant.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation.
The mint shows up in the nose as an evergreen smell combined with blackcurrant (a decidedly minty fruit), which was nice but unfortunately there’s not a lot of beer character (i.e., malt) to accompany it. Blame the nitrogen partly for that. Not as bad as expected (I dislike peppermint and find it a poor spice for beer), certainly drinkable, though not something I’d order again.
