This is a nicely hopped amber ale that is a staple of the Sun. It’s big brother Super Kind is even better but DaKind is classic and easier on the hand eye coordination. This is an unfiltered Amber that has nice head retention and a big malty nose. The hops make themselves known in the aroma and bitterness in a very pleasant way...no wonder this is so popular.

on tap-pours an off white head and cloudy amber/copper color. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is strong bitter hops. OK carbonation.

tap. hazy amber pour. medium sized head. very mild aroma of piney hops and caramel. fresh hops, caramel with big bitterness in the finish.

tap at the brewpub. dark amber body with a sticky lacing lemon tinted head. light orange and pine with the sugared malt aroma. roasty bitter flavor. a touch of cinnamon with a grassy taste. lemon in the finish. this is a bit harsh with the grainy malt flavor not mixing well with the hops. the malt side ain’t bad, and the hop profile is good, but they conflict. i thought the abv was higher than this, because it certainly was dry. there is a lingering cedar note that distracts.

Draught at Southern Sun. 8 oz. sample. Beer is a hazy, medium golden-brown color with a small, off-white, frothy, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is a bit demure and on the hoppy side: Malty with moderate notes of toasted grain and caramel; Hoppy with moderate-to-heavy notes of herb, celery and resin/pine; Yeasty with a trace note of dish rag, and an even fainter trace of sharp cheese; Light miscellaneous note of pineapple. The flavor was moderately sweet, moderately-to-heavily bitter, trace astringent with a long, moderately acidic, moderately sweet finish. Nice that the hop grip lets up for a smooth conclusion. The body was medium, the texture was watery-to-velvety and the carbonation was softer than average.

This is very good if you like your APAs on the bigger side of the spectrum. Lots of resiny hop oils dance on the glass, your tastebuds are overpowered at first by hop spiciness and then evenly balanced out by a big sweet malty background. Starts out sharp and melds into something very smooth and creamy. Great stuff!

Enjoyed off the tap at the Mountain Sun Pub. (Note: they often have this beer on Nitrogen tap, and that is the way I would recommend ordering, I have had it both ways) The color is a nice light brown/almost orange and slightly opaque, with a off-white, smallish nitrogen head. The aroma is floral and hoppy, with a few citrus overtones. The actual taste is heavy on the hops and bitter, with (very) few hints of flowers and orange, and it finishes hoppy and bitter, just the way I like it. Overall, probably my favorite beer at one of my favorite brewpub.

now i drank quite a few beers at mtn sun so my taste buds kinda got a bit warped but if you stay in the same genre of beers paleale, ipa, etc. they all taste resonably the same. huge hop flavors, which is very good and impressive but not much difference in the beers. this one is dominated with cascade esque resiny bitterness that clings to the back of your throat. i called it the california kind when ordering. waiter didnt like that much and quickly corrected me COLORADO!! da Kine!
