Poured an orange amber color with an average sized off white head; quickly diminishing. Aroma of toasted malt, bread, caramel and slightly sweet maltiness. Flavor was actually quite good, especially in light of the low ratings here. Fruity, caramel, bread, toffee with a minimal amount of hops in the finish. Average sweetness. Not amazing, but this was definitely a pleasant surprise. JK (2958), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

Grainy aromas with a touch caramel. Faint green hops. Medium to full bodied with a pleasant palate. Bright and crisp initially, with decent effervescence and a solid hop punch. The bitterness fades into a nice dry bready finish. The tingling lingers as well as the hops. Somewhere in the middle, the caramel malts pop out and then retreat again. This is good drinking! Solid example with more hops than expected. This is good. thegreenrooster (1839), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Pour is a dark copper with a small white head. Aroma is mostly sweet caramel malts. Flavor is some chewy earthy and caramel malts with a ever so slight roasted nut hidden in the backround. Irish red is not a style to get your kicks off of but this was a decent example of the style. Deffinatly head and shoulders above a killians. JPDIPSO (4915), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 18, 2009 Dark amber color with a taller beige head. A few speckles of lace. The first thing I smell is a mix of beer nuts and spanish peanuts. There also seem to be hints of sour dough and lightly toasted malt. A little father in, I seem to catch cracked mustard. A rather dry start, with a malt flavor that borders on being old and musty. Some hints of citrus and and light brown sugar in the middle. I catch the english hops, but they don’t bring anything bright of cheery to this one. Finish has a bit of grin and linger has a return of the some of the musty malt and a vague bitterness. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Apr 8, 2009 (22oz bottle) Medium off-white head that mostly dissipates atop cloudy copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel/butterscotch, grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, medicinal, some lemon. Seems infected (I hope it’s not supposed to taste this way). Light-medium body, light stickiness. CaptainCougar (5494), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Bottle thanks to bhensonb: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of toasty caramel malt with some grainy character and a touch of citrusy hops. Starts with average fullness and carbonation with some sweet toasty caramel and pale malts and a touch of oxidation before a drier citrusy hop finish. Pretty smooth and drinkable.
