Commercial Description:
This strong Moylan's brew is what keeps those Irish eyes a smiling. Its deep amber radiance has been described by our brewer as the most visually enticing beer. This ale's rich malty flavor, full body, invigorating aroma, and expansive finish empower it to be extremely satisfying and repeatedly enjoyed. Great Western Two Row Pale Malt, De Wolf-Cosyns' Caravienne and Munich Malts are allied to provide the 1.070 beginning specific gravity, while Fuggle and Liberty hops balance this sweetness. A classic rich and malty ale from Ireland. Unlike most "want-to-be" red ales, Moylan's red has a rich caramel character balanced with a low hop profile.

Bottle... Poured reddish amber with a white head. Aroma of malted grains. Sweet buttery malt flavors and some chalky, bitter accents. Cherry fruit flavors and roasted grains in the finish.

Bottle. Pours a dingy brown with about a finger of dense tan foam on top. Aromas are odd and kind of hard to pick out. Something of an earth/dirt smell with a little bit of brown sugar sweetness and toffee. Flavor is more of the same, but has a very heavy and unfiltered mouthfeel, which makes me happy. Kind of a sweet and chewy caramel and toffee experience.

AR- Moderate malt aroma mostly of sweet caramel and toffee, low earthy and grassy hop aromas, some light fruity esters (off style), fairly clean AP- Dark amber with orange highlights, hazy clarity with significant particulates, off-white head gradually dissipates FL- Moderate sweet caramel malt sweetness wrestles with uncharacteristic fruity esters (pears, berries), fruits also drown out toast malts, low hop flavors (grassy), low hop bitterness, clean and smooth, sweet finish MO- Medium-light body, moderate-low carbonation, watery slick texture OV- Clean and easy-drinking malty red, however the presence of significant esters is off style as is the lack of roasty finish, hops are above threshold allowed (likely due to the CA interpretation), hazy appearance may benefit from better filtration process, the malts should be more prominent and are detracted by the fruit flavors

Ugh. Not a very enjoyable beer. Aroma was decent. It was all caramel. Nothing else. Pour was a flat light brown with no bubbles or head. Not the red color I love in the style. Taste was very off. All burnt caramel with not much else going on. I know Irish ales should be malty, but this takes it to a new level. This tastes like a Dairy Queen desert topping. Blah

Not bad - not memorable either. Pours copper red with almost no head. Aroma is sweet sweet malts. Flavor is the same. Lots of earthy notes as well as caramel and bread.

Bottle courtesy of Dalzale. Pours red with a thin off white head. Smells of spice, earth, caramel, dough. Tastes of dough, caramel, some bitter hints. Finishes earthy.

Malty aroma, and flavor. Some caramel and toasty malt, but not really that strong, or impressive. Sort of a weak effort from moylans, but very drinkable.

Very nice hazy golden color with a big foamy head and lace reduces fast. Aroma of orange peels malt and fresh grains. Nice smooth mellow beer full of flavor not strong or hoppy but they are there. Great toasty caramel finish.
