On cask at Day of the Living Ales 2009, GI Wrigleyville, Chicago: This poured a deep copper/brown with an off-white head. It had a rich malty aroma filled with caramel, nuts, toasted grain, and dark fruit. The fruit grew in the flavor but the nuttiness seemed to balance the sweetness nicely. They should sell this one here.

Tap @ Toronado SD. Pours orange with a tan head. Nose is sweet with a big caramel kick. Taste is sweet and malty and overall kinda boozy. All in all not bad.

On tap @ the brewpub. Pours perfect clear amber with off white head. It has a fairly pungent aroma with bold ripe cherries, prunes and figs with sugar sweet malts in the background. The taste begins with sweet malts and some brown sugar. It quickly becomes very sweet as ripe cherry and hints of molasses hit midway. As the finish approaches thick rich sweet cherries, prunes and raisins bludgeon the senses with slick sweetness that doesn’t ever let up. Still, I found the flavor very nice.

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of toasted caramel, malts, slight dark ripe fruit, slight raisin, candi sugar, and slight scotch. Poured dark brown/ruby in color with a tiny, tan head that disappeared quickly, except that it lasted around the edges. Opaque. Not sparkling. Complex flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of malts, toasted caramel, light toffee, slight yeast, slight raisin, slight tobacco, slight oak, candi sugar, and hints of vanilla and scotch. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Toasted caramel, malt, and slight oak finish is lightly dry. 10.7%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Tap at Flying Saucer.
Pours a dense mahogany with a faint head of off-white. Nose features sour cherry bomb candy and strawberry preserves. Flavor is strawberry preserves soaked in alcohol with a raisin/prune puree finish. Average feel on the tongue. Too fruity and too boozy.

Pours with a red-brown body topped with a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with notes of candy sugar and a little toffee as well as alcohol notes. Full bodied and smooth yet warming.
