sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA May 25, 2009 Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy amber, small off-white head. Big grapefruit and citrus notes in the aroma. Flavor is dominated by hops, grapefruit and caramel. Nicely bitter on the finish. HighWine (163), , California, USA May 23, 2009 Tap at the brewery. Liquid gold in the glass. White head, good lacing. Floral hop nose. Good balance of malt and hops. zizzybalubba (335), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA May 19, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma of hops, hops, and more hops. Holy crap, this is hoppy! Taste is pure bitter grapefruit and pine. This is the hoppiest beer (that was any good) I have ever tried. Not even close to being balanced. It’s great if you can handle it. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA May 19, 2009 Holy crap this was hoppy. Probably the hoppiest thing I’ve ever had except Red’s Rye. The hops tasted very oily, but it an acidic bitter sort of way that was just bludgeoning. A good sort of bludgeoning. Somewhat sweet and the sweetness had a nice balance with the hops. Lots of citrus, some floral, some pine. Great IPA, but so overpriced I doubt I’ll buy it again. JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada May 18, 2009 pours a nice copper colour with a good sized head strong hop aroma and a very sweet hops flavour Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA May 18, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren. Copper, off-white foam. Pungent intense aroma, as if this were some kind of house scent, not something to drink. Balsam, cinnamon, peppermint, menthol, radiating out of the glass in waves. Raspberry and quinine flavor, oily and medicinal. Concentrated in a way that makes me question if this was intended to be drunk straight up, or if a 50/50 blend with club soda would be more appropriate. A massive and excessive beer, but still very pretty in its own way, and clearly brewed with skill. Compared to a lot of the IIPAs I’ve tried recently, the hop character is very smooth and natural tasting. (So many IIPAs end up having that icky raw hop pellet flavor.) So as an experiment in how much hop juice you can cram into a beer, I totally dig this. Memorably intense. But as a beer I’d want again...not sure. A 4 oz glass of this would be plenty. (Unless I can spash some soda in there.) hopHeadedDevil (5), , North Carolina, USA does not count May 15, 2009 Hops don’t come through as much as I’d like in the aroma. Very nice pour, a hint of strawberry color. Wonderful earthy hops taste and well balanced. If I had a complaint, it would be that there’s too much malt for an IPA of this calibur. Finally, $10 is a little steep even for this beer. shablinky (10), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 15, 2009 Beautiful color, very well balanced but maybe a little too malty. Lacking in nose and a little too pricey. Still an excellent beer. The price to taste ratio just isn’t up to snuff.
