The hops tasted very oily, but it an acidic bitter sort of way that was just bludgeoning. A good sort of bludgeoning. Somewhat sweet and the sweetness had a nice balance with the hops. Lots of citrus, some floral, some pine. Great IPA, but so overpriced I doubt I’ll buy it again. JHunter (244), British Columbia, Canada

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren. Copper, off-white foam. Pungent intense aroma, as if this were some kind of house scent, not something to drink. Balsam, cinnamon, peppermint, menthol, radiating out of the glass in waves. Raspberry and quinine flavor, oily and medicinal. Concentrated in a way that makes me question if this was intended to be drunk straight up, or if a 50/50 blend with club soda would be more appropriate. A massive and excessive beer, but still very pretty in its own way, and clearly brewed with skill. Compared to a lot of the IIPAs I’ve tried recently, the hop character is very smooth and natural tasting. (So many IIPAs end up having that icky raw hop pellet flavor.) So as an experiment in how much hop juice you can cram into a beer, I totally dig this. Memorably intense. But as a beer I’d want again...not sure. A 4 oz glass of this would be plenty. (Unless I can spash some soda in there.) hopHeadedDevil (5), , North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 15, 2009 Hops don’t come through as much as I’d like in the aroma. Very nice pour, a hint of strawberry color. Wonderful earthy hops taste and well balanced. If I had a complaint, it would be that there’s too much malt for an IPA of this calibur. Finally, $10 is a little steep even for this beer. shablinky (10), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 15, 2009 Beautiful color, very well balanced but maybe a little too malty. Lacking in nose and a little too pricey. Still an excellent beer. The price to taste ratio just isn’t up to snuff. jbrus (4842), Delft, Netherlands

Sweet, bitter, grapefruit, bready. Full, almost syrupy. Powerful stuff but just no it. ben4321 (984), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma: Mostly pine and citrus, some sweet malt smells in there as well
Appearance: Dark and hazy orange color, thick creamy white head
Flavor: Huge pine hops, there is some malt backing here, but the hops are the huge power
Palate: Great mouthfeel, big bodied
Overall Impression:
I really liked this one a lot, a strong and powerful, great tasting DIPA. Definitely a beer I enjoyed and would love to drink again. Had this just before the Moylander, and really liked them both. cmonster (75), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2009 Bomber poured into a tulip. Orange copper in color. Medium-sized off-white head. Huge hop nose. Sweet citrus and pine notes galore. Creamy, thick, and sticky mouthfeel. The flavor is bitter and drying from start to finish. Pucker up is right.
