vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA May 5, 2008 The beer pours an attractive copper-orange color with a tan head. Sticky lacing is left behind as the glass is emptied. The aroma is that of strong citrus hops with a good bit of sweet malt thrown in. The hop aroma comes across as "wet" and fresh. Hopsickle supplies a hop explosion in your mouth. It’s not all citrus though. You are hit with pine and bitter notes as well. The finish is bitter with a lingering sweet malt stickiness. At 9.2% ABV the alcohol flavor comes through in the aftertaste. The flavor and mouth feel remind me of what you get from wet hopped beers such as Great Divide Fresh Hop Pale Ale or Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale, though on a much bigger scale. The Moylan’s web site doesn’t offer any clues if the fresh (or wet) hopping is used, although the label mentions "fresh hops." hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA May 3, 2008 pours a hazy orange shade of brown with a fluffy light tan head. great retention leaves behind lace rings around the glass. very earthy aroma... brown sugar, pine, lemon skin and white grapefruit pith. the palate is on the sweet but there is a reward with a bunch of resiny bitterness. the flavor starts sweet and malty with some brown sugar then turns to pine, citrus pith and cinnamon-like spiciness. bitter finish lingers for quite a while. full bodied, slick mouth feel and a creamy smooth texture. there’s a bit of stickiness left on the lips. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 30, 2008 bottle, golden orange color with minimal head, I waited several weeks to rate this knowing what was about to happen, huge evergreen nose almost to the point of an ammoniated nose, huge bitter taste of grapefruit, lemons and sugar, when more is better this is almost too much sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Apr 29, 2008 (Bottled, thanks Esa K.) Slightly hazy darkish amber with a small head. Surprisingly mild, slightly stuffy aroma with some exotic fruit. Very intensely aromatic flavor with a mix of all possible hops. Backed by nice maltiness, and a very long, bitter aftertaste. Almost full-bodied with soft carbonation. Not quite in balance, but the intense flavor is very nice. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2008 22 oz Bottle pours a hazy orange with a compact white head. Aroma is bracing..powerful citrus, pine and resinous hops and alcohol with a faint bit of malt. Flavor is initially over the top bitter and rough with plenty of lemon peel, grapefruit, spice, booze and distinct rocky bitter hop aftertaste. As the glass warms and your palate acclimates to the bitterness, there is a nice soft caramel malt sweetness w/ light bread to offset some of the bitterness & alcohol flavors. fg8080 (37), San Diego, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 Very, very hoppy aroma and taste. Pours copper golden witha nice white head. Nice bitter bite, nice bitter lingering finish. A well balanced brew! npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA Apr 27, 2008 Cloudy honey-colored with a smallish white head. Nose is quite bitter, with lots of citrus, a touch of caramel. Flavor is quite sweet, backed up by a dry, nutty bitterness. Plenty of grapefruit, almonds, and touches of vanilla and cake. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Apr 26, 2008 20061209 Party at Capt Lawrence. Bomber. Hazy, brassy orange with off-white head. Pungent aromas run the gamut of northwest hops, citrus, floral, pine plus nice, lush, forest undertones. Body is full, soft, resinous, with a pithy, biting finish. Lots of citrus hops throughout with solid biscuit malts and toast. yum.
