kimcgolf (822), Dacula, Georgia, USA Apr 26, 2008 This is really a good beer. Pours to a deep copper color with thick off-white head that lasts thru mid-beerand leaves very good lacing on the glass. Strong grapefruit citrusy hops htis you as soon as the bottle is opened, and is sustained throughout. The initial mouthfeel is very bitter, and enjoyable, but as the beers warms, this is offset nicely by malty sweetness. Flavor is more of the citrusy grapefruit, all leading to a finish that is pleasantly bittersweet. By beers end, the 9.2% ABV also made itself well lnopwn in both the taste and the after-effects.
I savored this beer for close to an hour, and it got better as I went along. My only complaint is that I cannot get this in GA, and had to bring this back from my home visit to Illinois. ghawener (952), San Salvador, El Salvador Apr 26, 2008 Thanks to Ramenen. Bottle: Murky explosions of herbal and citrus notes. Spices and hops all over the place but extremely well balanced. Delicious. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 25, 2008 Copper colored and clear with an off white decent to good head. Smell is of course very hoppy with cirtus and pine. Taste is pleasingly bitter, and grassy. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 23, 2008 Bottle shared with kleyland. Pours a hazy, light gold. Medium sized, off white head. Good bit of lacing around the glass. Huge aroma of piney hops. Flavor is a hop heads dream. Citrus, piney, with a nice malty backbone. Bitterness from the start. Thick mouthfeel, almost syrupy. Very nice beer, great start to the DL Weekend! GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Apr 21, 2008 Bottle. Clear, clean copper color. No head. Limited carbonation. Sweet, apricot, simcoe, hoppy assault before the tasting. Tangerine, tangy aroma overall and flavoring follows with a bmore bitter ending on the tongue. Somewhat watery given how rich the aroma started out but a very high quality beer in my view. I’d avoided these guys for a while and not entirely sure why.
ucusty (1865), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Apr 21, 2008 North Raleigh tasting! Pour is amber with fluffy off white head and some spotty lacing. Piney aromas. Grapefruit and pine with a twist of malts. trevor211 (499), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 17, 2008 They’re not kidding when they call it an ode to the hop. Pours a bright amber with a great head that lingers. Aroma of hops all the way. Bright citrus notes, and if you didn’t know what you were smelling, you’d think someone had a fresh-picked hop flower crushed under your nose. The flavor isn’t even balanced - some malts are there, but it’s all hops, for sure. Grapefruit and pine notes. This is a very seriously bitter brew - if you’re a hophead, you might not find much better... but even for me it’s a bit much. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Apr 16, 2008 Used to live in Novato in the late 1990’s and went to Moylan’s often. One of my many introduction to great craft beer. I’m excited to rate my first. Pours dark amber with a frothy white head that fades into a ring. Huge aroma of grapefruit, pine and caramel. Hops really dominate the taste. It presents REALLY bitter all the way through. Certainly a beer that will please hopheads, but I would have appreciated a bit more balance.
