radagast83 (1269), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 20, 2008 22 oz bottle. This beer poured a hazy orange color. The aroma was heavy on citrus - orange, pine, and fruits. The flavor was phenomenal. Alcohol is pretty well hidden for a IIPA. The hop flavor is great - but not too overpowering. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 Pours a wonderfully hop hazed caramel orange color. The aromas are wonderfully fruity and hopped out. I get Melon, pineapple, citrus peel and a dash of pine to round out the explosion of aromas. While the aroma prepared me for what may have been one of my favorites of this style, the flavor left me wanting. The aromas I experienced did not come through at all. The bitterness is strong and piney, some notes of grapefruit rind and fakir lime leaves. The hops suck the moisture out of your mouth leaving the finish dry and bitter, without the complimentary citrus flavors I had hoped from this bottle. Still a good beer, but maybe better with some sushi ala (bunkypop). steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 17, 2008 well, i had this while eating some saucy, spicy-ass sushi and let me tell you... this beer went awesome with it; yes, this beer went awesome with it... this is clearly an example of the IIPA style... a great, strong and hoppy ale to cut some spicy sushi with :o) basically, if i had this on a palate that was fresh, on an empty and hungry stomach, etc., then this would have been an assault rather than a compliment. dkingsella (83), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 16, 2008 Pours a nice copper color with a nice egg shell colored head. Sticky head left nice lacing. Aroma seems tropical...sweet with citrus and pineapple...hits you immediately upon opening the bottle. Very aggressive hops in the flavor. Very resinous with pronounced alcohol in the finish. Nice and bitter the way a DIPA should be. There is nothing timid about this beer. Hop Heads rejoice!! jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Feb 16, 2008 Updated: May 5, 2008Pours copper-orange with a one-finger white head. Bready, grapefruity nose with that touch of cattiness that always seems to come with Simcoes. Honey sweetness rounds out the nose. The flavor is bitter. Not "great hop flavor" and bitter, but just bitter. It’s hard to taste anything at all. Bitter and hot and unbalanced.. I consider myself a hophead, but this is overdone. carl4beer (391), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Feb 16, 2008 Updated: Sep 7, 200822oz. pours hazy dark gold with a nice off white head. aroma is big hop of grapefruit and pine. Mouthful is huge hops.... and more huge hops... has a nice smooth carbonation to facilitate the hoppy assault on the taste buds. the finnish is extra bitter. A great hop assault... but not very balanced. hsejkora (1), gilbert, Arizona, USA does not count Feb 15, 2008 this is the best double ipa i have ever tasted. everything about this screams hops. essentially liquid hops with a hint of alcohol. it has ruined my palate, and i have yet to find a ipa to come close. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 11, 2008 Glows orange in the glass with a fine off-white head that gives some lacing to the glass. Hop aromas are straightforward and clean. The hop flavors are rich and bright, with a lemony bite. The alcohol heightens the sharpness of the hops, but contributes a grainy dryness on the back end. Great bittering dry finish. Theonly drawback here is the sheer volume of alcohol, which, even though you can’t taste it, is very high.
