doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Pours a deep honey yellow/orange color with a moderately thick head that hangs around for a while and leaves a bit of lace. Smells of HOPS! Ripe citrus, and dark grass scents. The most wonderful and extremely bitter tasting IPA I’ve ever had. I love it. Just plain hops and only hops that’s it. Mouthfeel is not too thick at all. Good carbonation. Super, pucker bitter. What an awesome beer. If you really wanted to you could probably drink two bombers. BCAR (216), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jan 30, 2008 Couldn’t be more disappointed than a brew that’s supposed to be so good. Bitter, Bitter, Bitter. With no redeeming complexity in flavor. Looks great, smells great. That’s about it. Astringent hoppiness is the best way to describe it. Can’t even get past it. Stick with Avery Majaraja, Dreadnaught, 90 minute, or Hopslam if you want a solid DIPA that has more than one element to it. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jan 29, 2008 Purchased from Bevmo Santa Rosa, June 2007. Somewhat hazy dark copper with a manilla head. Piney and citrusy PacNW aroma with a toastiness underneath. Flavor has notes of toffee, caramel, lots of pine, grapefruit, citrus PacNW hop goodness. Prominent yet pleasant, resinous bitterness - some pepper. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice IIPA/Barleywine hybrid. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2008 Another DIPA that doesnt live up to the hype in my book. Its just too thick with one dominating flavor. Too sweet as well. It is packed with flavor, but if i am in a sipping mood I am going to go elsewhere. I think I have been spoiled with Dreadnaught on the style BabyJoe692 (109), Pickerington, Ohio, USA Jan 25, 2008 Bomber bottle. Pours amber in color. Strong aroma of hops (citrusy and piney). Tastes strongly bitter, very piney/resinous. msante79 (778), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Updated: Jul 26, 2009Bomber. Pours hazy copper. One finger off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of hops, citrus, pine and more hops. Taste is citrus, pine, and malt. Finishes very bitter to hops. Nicely balanced for amount of hops. This is not for the weary. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 22, 2008 Bottle. Orange body, medium white head with good retention and lacing, very hoppy, resinous nose. Some sweetness noticeable under the massive IBUs, hoppy flavors predominate. A bit over the top. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Jan 22, 2008 Updated: Jan 24, 2008Goddamn! Talk about seriously bitter stuff right here! Bottled pour produces a clear orange-amber color with a sticky vanilla head and heavy duty lacing. Aroma is impressive. Grapefruit rind, sticky pine sap and hops resin take over the senses upon the first smell. Peppery spice, pumpkin and butterscotch is noticeable in the aroma as well. The Simcoe really brings out this beer’s flavor, with a huge malty backbone that mixes well with other flavors of cheescake, rum and more citrus. The finish absolutely oozes with high alpha hops bitterness that sticks to your mouth for minutes...and I mean minutes. Hell, the last sip I took was 3 minutes ago, and my tongue is still wrecked. Awesome. Balance is alright. Not too syrupy or dry. Bitterness? Well, it almost goes over the top. But I like it!
