piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Dec 2, 2007 Light amber in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, leafy hops, pine, and a bit of candied fruit. Standard west coast IIPA mix of chewy caramel malts, and resiny/citrusy hops. Quite a long grassy finish on this one, which is nice after all of the caramel malts. Quite good, but could be a tad drier. Thanks to oakbluff for sharing this one with me. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Dec 1, 2007 pour is a very nice looking orange-amber, small egg-shell head, excellent lacing.
smell is grapefruit, a touch of sweetness, and graham cracker.
taste is very bitter, dry, lots o’ hops, grapefruit.
this brew is really hoppy, taste great, and is a must for anyone who enjoys bitter, bitter beer.
HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2007 Poured a hazy dark amber color with thin, firm lasting head and good lacing. Nose is all hops, from pine to grapefruit. Flavor was citrus hops at first, followed by a slight malt sweetness and finishing with a dry bitter and piney hop. Sticky and slightly syrupy in the mouth. A very delicious 2IPA. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Dec 1, 2007 poured clear amber with a very thin head. Lots of bitter fruit and hops in the aroma. Tasted very malty and very hoppy. Citrus and grass thrown in for good measure. Alcohol burn going down but not in a bad way, dry and bitter also. Very long lasting, I still pick stuff out of it a minute later. This one was very fresh, much different from the one I had last. Beerlando (2280), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 23, 2007 Pours a hazy, dark reddish-amber color. The first pour exhibited more clarity than the second, as there’s a ton of unavoidable yeasty sediment in this one. A large, frothy, egg wash head shows excellent retention, and leaves thick patchwork lacing all the way down the glass. The aroma is pure SoCal IIPA, with heaps of fresh orange, grapefruit, and tropical fruity hops. Mango and peach are present, as is a heap of fresh cream and caramel. There’s a faint grassyness in the background as well. The flavor shows a heavy malt bias up front, toffee in particular. Quickly, it shifts to dominating, bitter grapefruit and orange hops. An ample amount of cream smoothes things out, but its still on the hoppy side of balanced. Finishes long and bitter. Medium-full bodied, with just the slightest bit of astringency. Big, big beer. There are alot of huge aromas and flavors moving around in this one. Theis (3617), Denmark Nov 22, 2007 Bottle at "Wining & Dining Tasting" - thanks to Sune. Clear amber - offwhite head. High high hoppy, caramel, sweetness, grass, dryness, very american, high lasting bitterness, cactus, light light cheese - again today !! jezmez68 (332), Chesterton, Indiana, USA Nov 22, 2007 Bottle brought to Thanxgiving 2007 by a friend from Chicago (Binny’s). Had this side-by-side with a bottle of Three Floyd’s Dreadnaught. Decent-sized head, nice lacing. This one was a bit more floral and piney smelling. The hop aftertaste was more brilliant than the Three Floyd’s and really stood out. Totally recommend. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Nov 21, 2007 Thanks to Skyview for sharing. Orange color with massive off-white head. Piny citrus hop nose. Dry body with sweet hop character.
