HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Nov 10, 2007 Big and very bitter. The bitter hops washout the flavor and aroma hops and towards the end the beer got a little too sticky for my liking. Interesting enough to keep you sipping though. tytoanderso (1381), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Nov 9, 2007 Bottle via trade with kryptic. Reminds me a lot of Avery Maharaja.... this is a good thing. Loads and loads of wet, sticky, oily, piny hops on the nose. There is some necessary sweet caramel to balance out the massive amount of piney hops. Pours cloudy copper with excellent sticky lacing. Full bodied with plenty of oily, sticky hops on the palate. Some tangerine, apricot and mango fruitiness as well. Some roasted caramel malts as well. Hoppy to the max. kyzr (1119), Belgrade, Montana, USA Nov 8, 2007 Thanks to riversideAK for the bottle. Been wanting to try this for a long time. Thick amber color with nice big creamy off-brown head. Ok, what do you expect. Yes, there are hops all over the place on this nose, but hints of caramel pop up in the background. When the hops hit your mouth, from that moment on, there is nothing but for a few seconds. Then just then can you start to find the slight hints of roast and sweetness. The finish is dry with hops that suck the moisture right from your throat. Wow! sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 8, 2007 The Dan Journal #119. Tasted 10/18/07. 22oz bomber next to the Moylands Double IPA. Filtered and amber hues. Webbing of bone white head. Honey aromas in the nose. Mild nuances of melons and citrus. Full bodied with big bitterness. High gravity with a sticky burn. Huge beer! Livelier than the double. Toasty with malty sweetness. The GABF gold medal winner! I can see that. glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 7, 2007 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of roasted and caramel, heavy to harsh hop aromas of spruce resin, grapefruit zest and flowers, and light yeast notes of soap and broth, with peach, cherry, wood, smoke and pepper when it warmed. Head is creamy/bubbly white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is a slightly hazy amber/orange. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation and finishes heavily astringent and extra dry. This beer has hops to the extreme. Aroma was perfect, but the flavor could’ve been a bit more balanced. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 5, 2007 10-7-07 bottle. Translucent amber with thick head. Soapy hoppy aroma. Bitter and soapy flavor. However, it reminds me of putting a 9-volt battery on the tongue. This was so metallic it was hard to swallow. Very intense mouth reaction that I have yet to experience until this beer. Just too soapy, strong, overfilled with alcohol and metallic for little ol’ me. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Nov 4, 2007 Pours orange/amber, with an off-white head. Aroma is hops, caramel, and oranges. Flavor is grapefruit hops, caramel, and oranges. Intense hopiness, and quite good. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2007 (bottle thanks Skyview) Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Nice citrusy hop smell of canned mandarin oranges, slight grapefruit. Taste is initially sweet caramel which then yields to a nice bitter hop finish, a nice DIPA.
