OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Oct 31, 2007 [Bottle, thanks Skyview] Pours amber with a good light tan head. Aroma is, big surprise, mostly hops. Taste is likewise just an explosion of hops with some malt in the finish. A very nice beer. Skyview (3931), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Oct 31, 2007 Sampled from 22-oz bomber that was originally picked up at Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington. Pours a semi-clear coppery amber brew with a thick off-white head that has some good retention. Aroma of orange and grapefruit zest, some caramel malt, pine, and a touch of heavy alcohol. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation, with flavors of light caramel malt and over the top grapefruit juice, orange zest, and bitterness to curl your tongue. Finish is sweet at first and then a long lingering piney bitterness. A real West Coast Imperial IPA. Brigadier (1211), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Oct 29, 2007 650 ml botttle
As soon as this was opened the smell of hops filled the kitchen. This is not a subtle beer but your over the top West Coast IIPA. What makes it even better is that it only costs $3.99 a bomber - that’s a steal for anything this good. Let’s hope the hop shortage doesn’t cause the prices to rise too much over the next year.
Aroma / Appearance - Strong pine, resin and manadarin oranges fill not only the glass but the airspace within five feet. Peaches and cream highlight a very strong imperial IPA. The one finger white head held underneath a fluid transparent copper body.
Flavor / Palate - The bitterness immediately causes one to begin puckering. While it doees this the mouth stays moist somehow. Peaches, pine resin and vanilla come first. A few later sips reveal raspberries and cedar chips. The finish is wet with a strong aftertaste that lingers up until you wash it away with something else. This is an in your face beer that doesn’t hold anything back. drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA Oct 28, 2007 Updated: Nov 1, 2007Strong pleasant aroma of lush, fresh grass. Brownish-apricot color and clear. Wow this one is FULL of hops that hit you right away, sting as they go down, and don’t go away! Just a blast; a thrill ride; you’re at Great America and you just rode The Edge. Very sweet too.
[tasted next to a Moylans Moylander Double IPA]
Good Lord. I didn’t expect this. The Hopsickle blows it away.
[tasted next to a Green Flash Imperial IPA]
The Hopsickle is more malty, sweet, and syrupy; the Green Flash is way more focused on delicious grass. Both are fantastic, but I prefer the Green Flash. rayg1 (432), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Oct 27, 2007 Popped open this brew tonight and the smell of grapefruit filled the air. Pours out a murky almost dusty looking orange color. Head is light orange and thick but quickly falls down to nothing but a simple ring around the glass, great lacing though. Like stated before this brew smells great! Grapefruit and pine oils fill the air once you pour this guy a bit of sweetness in the aroma to really make the citrus effect hit home. Taste is thick, big, bad, bold, kick ass, hops. I’ve never had a beer except for maybe Dreadnaught to give my tounge such a "Shock and Awe" effect. Hops are the whole deal here and I love it. Hopheads, get on bended knee and praise the Hopsickle’s name! wetherel (1553), Encinitas, California, USA Oct 27, 2007 Poured from tap at Stone. Wow, what an incredible head of 1 finger of lingering microfoam. Dark slightly-cloudy amber color. Medium hop aroma and bitterness. Sweet and malty. It almost tastes aged with a tiny bit of oxidation and mellowed hop bitterness. Heavy body. Very good. JK (2943), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Oct 27, 2007 Another from Skyview. This beer has good citrus hop aroma. Flavor is well balanced by very sweet malt and more hops, leaving a light hop burn. Gold color. Very good. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2007 Pours IIPA golden with small white brim head. Nose of beautiful simcoe hop, similar to one of my faves goose island iipa. citrusy grapefruit hop deliciousness. Goes down swell, with a little too much alcohol on the palate. Otherwise fantastic.
