jsquire (2086), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Sep 14, 2007 Amber color out of the bomber with a frothy off white head and a sharp pine forest and orange peel nose. This beer left lots of sticky lace on the side of the glass. Lots of aroma from what I expect out of a IIPA: grapefruit juice, orange zest and pineapple. Solid bready backbone with a big hoppy resin syrup and a long sweet grapefruit finish. Nice hop head beer. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Sep 13, 2007 Bottle from Secret Santa. Hazy amber body with a large chunky beige head. The aroma is grapefruit, tangerine, apricot with cotton candy and caramel. The flavor is quite sweet with over-the-top crystal malt (i.e. lots of astringent caramel and ice tea), grapefruit and resinous pine. Medium/full body is sticky, chewy with a bitter, slightly astringent finish. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Sep 10, 2007 Straw orange gold with a thin film of white head. Hoppy alcoholic, slightly sweet nose. Orangy, a bit creamy. Clean, not too much complexity. A bit creamy, low carbonation, not too thick, but not watery. Big citrusy hops. Sweet light malt, not malty. alcohol and hop bitterness. Lingering orangy hop bitterness. Some alcohol pops out in the finish. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Sep 9, 2007 Bottle, bomber size. Pours an unclear crazy looking particulate filled gelatinous looking medium amber with a thin, lasting, off white head. There is seriously some crazy amounts of stuff floating in this beer....stuff that stays where it’s floating no matter how much you wiggle the glass. I’ve agitated plenty of bottle conditioned beers in my life and then poured them, just because I want to see the shit floating in them and taste the dead yeast, but it usually falls to the bottom of the glass. This shit is just floating. The lace is just stupid. I’ve not seen anything stick to a glass like this ever. I might as well throw my glass in the trash because it looks like it will never come clean. I think I stared at this beer for a goddamn hour. It looks fantastic. Aroma is initially hoppy, the cascade comes through pretty prominently but they did more here and you taste it. There is layers of fruit, pine, grapefruit, rind, flowers, plants, earth, and then some sweet caramel malt. Flavor is bitter, heavily so and delightedly so. I would say it’s well balanced with a caramel sweetness, however I would bet that many would not. The thing is though, the sweetness seems to last on the tongue as long as the bitterness even though the bitterness is kicking the sweetnesses ass the entire time. Finish is bitter and complex with hoppiness. The use of Tomahawk just hammers this one shut. This is truly a great beer experience. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Sep 6, 2007 Bottle thanks to Jacob. Increadable aroma, everything i would want in a hoppy ale is in this aroma, some much lychee character, grapefruit, grassy and floural, wow! Nice forming head however is a bit mirky. Taste is a huge malt backbone, cara, lly out its tits, however almost balanced by a huge hop character, not too bittering not too sweet, just nice. Amazing beer i sat and drank the whole 650ml myself and was ruined afterwards. blankboy (3156), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 4, 2007 Bottle (650ml) courtesy of toncatcher. Pours a slightly hazy, very bubbly, amber-orange with a large diminishing creamy off-white head. Very nice aroma of piney hops backed by sweet malt, a little spice, some citrus and a hint of alcohol. Delicious flavour bursting with a big-time hop medley (pine, resin, citrus and more), and though there’s some sweet malt backing it up, it’s all about the hops baby! Nice long bitter finish and the alcohol is hidden pretty well too, you wouldn’t know that this sucker is 9.2%. Medium to full bodied. This is a Hophead’s dream -- simply amazing! vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 2, 2007 Pours clear copper with a good sized light tan head. The aroma has lots and lots of hops - piny, tropical, earthy, citric and floral - very nice. It is nice and bold with very little malt presence that’s noticeable. Medium / full body that has a lot of lick resin and soft carbonation. It starts off with pine cones, pine needles, dry grapefruit and earthiness. The finish is very earthy with dark pine. Highly resinous. A great IIPA. asedzie (453), San Francisco, California, USA Sep 2, 2007 Bottle. Pours orange copper, fair off-white head. Spicy hops in the nose - so much there I can barely distinguish it all - grapefruit, passionfruit, pine needles, junipe, pineapple, juniper, floral nectary sweetness. Wow. Flavor is exceptional, full of all sorts of hoppy nuance, but also with strong, almost fruity toffee-like maltiness backing it up. This beer is all over the place. Basically I am getting a combination of tart exotic citrus, sweetish berries and the taste of fresh piney aroma in the nostrils. At least the alcohol is very subdued. Finish leaves an amazing amount of oil hop resin coating the palate. Extraordinary and over the top. I love it.
