Beer #2 at Grant’s Blind IIPA tasting. Single blind for me. Grapefruity, citrus hop aroma tht is pleasant, sweet, and floral. Some nice sweet malty notes are also detected. Rather quaffable. Moderately hazy amber color with a moderately light off-white head and some decent lacing. Lightly sweet grainy maltiness with some roastiness present in the middle. Dry, earthy hoppiness to finish. Rather grapefruity and too dry of a finish for my tastes. Still decent.

20061209 Party at Capt Lawrence. Bomber. Hazy, brassy orange with off-white head. Pungent aromas run the gamut of northwest hops, citrus, floral, pine plus nice, lush, forest undertones. Body is full, soft, resinous, with a pithy, biting finish. Lots of citrus hops throughout with solid biscuit malts and toast. yum.

Thanks dickinsonbeer for sharing. Silky off-white head with a metallic-orange body. Aroma of apricots, strawberries and candied fruits. Sweet hop profile. Concentrated flavor reminds me of orange syrup with building sweetness and coarse bitterness. Aggressive and strong, this is a major hop fix, but somehow this lacks some of the intangibles of the best double IPAs. Still very good.

Bomber from JCB. Enormous , enormous, enormous grapefruit aroma, citrus with caramel, pine and pineapple. Medium sweet and lightly bitter. Pale orange body with a creamy, lacing off-white head. Another brutally bitter IIPA, lasts long after drinking and really hunkers down on the back of the tongue. Dark, earthy, chewy flavor, stronger biscuit and caramel than in the aroma, lessened fruitiness. Some alcohol coming through, but not really warming. Resinous, oily hop juice; very good at what it does. Thanks, Jason!

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Translucent, slightly hazy straw-orange body, thin off-white head. Barleywine-like nose, caramely, boozy, and heavy, with herbal hops, citrus, and butterscotch. Extremely potent citrusy, herbal body, bitter, rough, and puckering, with thick, oily resins. A very big beer, boozy, astringent, and palate-destroying.
