When I say immediate, I mean, I smelled it the second I opened the cap. Pour is a clear golden with some settling and a nice fluffy white head. Taste is big hops, of course, and piney, citrus bitterness is really quite long and very much coats the mouth. Fun to drink, but I prefer a bit more balance. The 9.2 was EXTREMELY well hidden. sloth (1683), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2006 Medium statured head, retention is good, lace is thick, coating and lasting. Hazey amber hued ale. Lucious hop nose, citrus, pine with some light metallic notes too boot. Body is med/full, a touch oily, resiny with a medium acidity. Hops up front in the middle and end! Lotsa pine, citrus, melon with notes of honey and mint. Just a dusting of caramel malts under the rather large hop blanket. Dry, hoppy finish and one helluva bite! Now thats one big DIPA!! love it! Cliff, you are the man! Thanks buddy!! Odeed (1679), Bakersfield, California, USA

Poured a hazy copper orange, with a moderate light tan head. Wonderful nose...hops at first,. but then your get the scent of pine,. citrus, and tropical fruit. Really great mouthfeel. Flavor balanced malts and hops remarkably well. While high in alcohol, it hides this well. For an DIPA fan this is heaven. I love this almost as much as the Moylander Double IPA, douglas88 (1675), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2009 22oz bottle thanks to my man BrewDad. Listening to David Gilmour again. Pours a deep amber color with a large white head and lots of lacing. A sweet caramel malt and massive hop nose; pine and loads of citrus. The flavor is similar; a rich hoppy mix, bitter and citrus notes, pine, a strong caramel malt as well provides some balance. Smooth and easy. A very good rich mouthfeel. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2006 After sampling Pliny the Younger, this one REALLY paled in comparison. To be fair this is a very good brew. A bit of a sweet nose with malt and major hops coming out to play. Taste is hops of course but suprisingly not too overblown almost to a fault. I guess I expect my Imperial IPA’s to really be something special and while this was very good, I don’t think it has gotten there yet. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2007 Updated: May 1, 2007Cloudy amber color with a medium head. Aroma is overwhelmingly of piney-fresh hops. Taste matches the aroma as a palate-blasting assault of piney-hops with some tobacco and aggressive hop flavors. Did I mention there’s lots of hops in there? I do generally prefer maltier/sweeter D/IIPAs, but this suits me just fine when In need of a mega-hop blast. Well done! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Updated: Jan 9, 2007Bottles courtesy of the Hood_River_Bandit and Pailhead. Hazy copper with huge off-white head. Best lacing I’ve seen in a long time, completely coats the glass. Huge head re-forms after tiny swirl. Huge piney hop resin aroma with plenty of caramel in the background. Flavor has a nice sweet malt kick up front, before the hop bitters completely take over. Huge pine resin and grapefruit. Well balanced. Overall a very nice IIPA.
