This one is about as good as of an strong hop showcase as I’ve ever experienced. It pours hazy amber with a reasonable head. The aroma overflows with green -- cut grass and floral aromas dominate with plenty of juicy pine and citrus in the background to keep things full on the hop side. The dry-hopping just carries you away. There is not much else there in the aroma, but who cares? Inhaling this is a delight.
The flavor very nearly measures up. None of the burnt sugars that plague so many West Coast IIPAs; this one is juicy but quite dry, with a long lasting bitterness is that is almost subtle until you realize how totally bitter - no sweetness anywhere - the remaining oils are. Mouthfeel is full but not oily; the alcohol basically undetectable beneath the bitter hops.
This is how I like my IIPAs and while I usually drink IPA instead for a regular house beer, I think that this one too will become a staple in my house.
Bomber, ~ 6 months old.
At six months of age, the hops have already receded a great deal. Lots of powerful caramel malt, pushing toward hoppy barleywine territory, still enough hops to be clear it’s an IIPA but lacking much of that huge juicy goodness that it carried fresh. I’d got about 3.7 or 3.8 for this one at this age. slang (406), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

To be fair this is a very good brew. A bit of a sweet nose with malt and major hops coming out to play. Taste is hops of course but suprisingly not too overblown almost to a fault. I guess I expect my Imperial IPA’s to really be something special and while this was very good, I don’t think it has gotten there yet. LearninBeer (210), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 3, 2009 The aroma is very hoppy! Citrus kinda grapefruit with a little flower smell. The head was creamy, white, good lacing and mostly diminishing. The body was cloudy and orange. The flavor was bitter and lasted long. The body was medium, creamy with soft carbonation. A very good beer.. ChainGangGuy (2597), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 25, 2009 Served up at the recent Moylan’s release at the Brick Store Pub in Decatur, Georgia.
Appearance: Dark amber body showing nice clarity and layered with a wispy, off-white head.
Smell: Pleasingly fragrant, slightly sweet-scented hop aroma conveys large, deep notes of pine, citrus fruit, and flowers. Distant, lesser notes of malt as well.
Taste: Pale malts with a supposed crystal malt sweetness deliver an impression of caramel candy. A sharp, aggressive taste of pine resin, lemon wedges, and white grapefruit bears down on the tongue and unleashes a substantial amount of hop bitterness. The latter half is marked by a now continuous stream of hop bitterness, more caustic pith qualities, and some warming alcohol heat. Some hints of orange blossom develop late. Finishes expectantly dry with a long, bristling bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Lusciously smooth, downright creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A pungent, intense brew, but a good one. If you’re in the market for a mouth crammed full of hops then give this beer a try. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Very citrus and a little piney in the aroma. Flavor was so hoppy that it almost seemed sour like grapefruit. One of the intense beers ive ever had. I dont think you could even have this at a tasting because you would not be able to taste anything else.. This is one that must be tried. after4ever (2809), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2007 22. Damn. Not sure if the name is in reference to ice cream cones or something on the order of hammer and sickle, but anyway. Huge orange nose, almost candied; buttered, even. Borderline worried about diacetyl, so buttery. Definitely one of a kind in my humble experience. Big forward attack, mostly due to tingly carb and super aggressive flavors (the body’s within the bounds of normalcy). The finish has tons of grapefruit and pine, and it really hangs around. The mid-palate is just a pause between the nose and the finish, as with so many DIPAs; there’s a whisper of caramel there to remind you that there’s cereal as well as leaf involved in the brewing. But sit back and enjoy the hops--they’re the stars of the show, and the opening act (barley) barely gets to finish one tune. greenhorn1 (462), Mission Viejo, California, USA

Aroma of hops, citrus (grapefruit), and even pine notes. Flavor is similiar with sweet carmel notes. This is a very rich beer with a big hop hit that lingers. I could barely notice the high alcohol content. I love this beer.
