| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2006 Bomber which unfortunately exploded upon opening, sending five or so ounces onto the floor and into the sink. Doh! Otherwise, poured a cloudy orange with a huge merange-like craggy tan head, mostly lasting and leaving stripes of lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and piney hops, spice, a bit of soapiness and some tree sap as well. Very hoppy flavor, spicy, with rich caramel butter-toffee malt foundation. Almost reminiscent of an imperial. Medium palate-smooth. Nice lingering resiny hop bitterness on the finish. From what I salvaged this is a very good left coast IPA. Quite surprised the average rating isn’t higher. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 8, 2006 Bomber. Poured a clear medium orange with an explosive and long-lived cap of creamy beige head... left some nice lacing. Nose was airy and grainy... with hard-to-reach pine and spicy hops... some caramel and toffee beneath. The flavor carried itself a little better, with pine, grapefruit, and spicy English hoppage on top of super-sweet caramel and candy corn. Medium bitterness on the not-so-memorable palate... a bit tacky at the back-end. Decent. Bockyhorsey (2552), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2006 22oz. Bottle. Good floral aroma. Body had a firery copper color with big foamy off white head. As soon as I took off the cap foam was bubbling like that oil Jed Clampit found in the hillbillies. Took few minutes for head to settle so I could have a beer. Medium bodied brew with a good mix of sweet, citrus, spice and bitter. Sweet dry palate, decent beer. rudolf (1782), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2006 Copper body, huge light tan head. Nose is piney/resin hops, grapefruit, medium toasted malt, maybe a hint of alcohol. Flavor is citruc/pine, relatively sweet malt. Grapefruit in the finish. puzzl (2646), New York, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Pours with a humongous head that laces beautifully, and unfortunately makes drinking the beer very difficult. Aroma is strong in hops but exhibits strong vegetal characteristics, celery, eggplant, tomato, too much so, where I normally prefer my hops citrusy or piney. There is a strong funky maltiness in the flavor that is uncharacteristic of IPAs and tastes very german. Overall, the really comes off as almost being a german IPA, rather than American (not to mention west coast). MrBunn (1543), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Aromas are wonderful of pine and grapefruit with a floral background. Color is amber/orange with a massive (insanely large) foamy head that is currently obstructing my path to the beer below. Although the hops are clearly dominant in the aroma, they are a little more subdued in the flavor where they blend very well with a creamy, caramel flavoring from malt. This is much sweeter flavored than I would have guessed and a very interesting take on the IPA genre in the US. It’s much creamier than most and has a very silky texture. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Aug 16, 2006 22oz bottle pours amber with a big offwhite head that stays prety well and laces the sides of the glass. Aroma is straight up grapefruit and pine hops. Flavor is more balanced.. Big blast of hops upfront gives way to sticky sweet caramel malts before the hops come back to finish it off bitter and dry. Somewhat watery palate that I didn’t particularly care for. Pretty well balanced though. Not bad for 3.99 for 22oz though.. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Aug 12, 2006 Why this is rated so low, I’ll never know. Pours a golden orange with a sturdy, creamy yellowish-white head...nice retention as well. Pretty balanced aroma, a nice bit of sweet malt interlaced with pine citrus, and a smidge of...smoke? The floavor holds a good deal of similar characteristics(sans the smoke)...bitter, sweet, and clean. A nice body, though a bit thin at times gives way to a overly warming feeling that borders on burning torwards the end. Despite that, a nice couple of hop punches with a decent malt backbone and a crazy lasting bitter aftertaste makes this money well spent.
