pours a ruby caramel color with a very thin light tan colored head...retention is pretty poor. aroma has some fruit...maybe fig?...vanilla, molasses and red licorice with light alcohol. flavor has red licorice too with dark fruit, caramel, vanilla, light scotchiness and mild spicy hops. mouthfeel is silky and the finish is roasty and long. tasty scotch ale.

22 oz. bottle. Clear copper, beige head, thick, clinging lace. Grainy with hints of caramel, some nuttiness, and tinges of dark fruit. Smooth, creamy, medium body with light carbonation. Sweet up front with lingering sugary character, soft bitterness enters at the finish.

On tap, pours a clear red with little white head. Not much to the nose, but wow do cherries dominte the taste. malty, but marachino cherry juice is the dominant flavor up front, during, and at the end. Thin but not watery, I’d recommend this one to your girlfriend, but I probably won’t order it again.

Pours a clear amber color with some reddish tint and medium foamy beige colored head that settles to a thin film. The aroma is fruity and sweet with tons of sweet caramel and toffee malts. The flavor follows suit with the sweet caramel and toffee taking top billing with some dark fruit and a touch of earthy hops. Medium bodied and on the syrupy side with a lengthy sweet and warming finish from the alcohol. This didn’t have any of the peat that I like in this style and just too sweet for my liking.

Pours a medium dark clear amber with a thin white head that has poor to moderate retention... Sweet aroma of brown sugar, molassas, with notes of cherry??? Flavors of peat but not smoky, chocolate, brown sugar, with a note of dark fruits... Medium bodied, strangely airy mouthfeel, i dont get a full mouthfeel like others, but the alcohol is a bit noticable by feel maybe not by taste... Not a great deal of lingering flavors, but a bit of lingering warmth...

Sampled on 3/3/09. This Scotch Ale pours a medium amber gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet, hint of chocolate and a touch of earthiness. A medium bodied scotch ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. Nice chocolate and toffee flavors as well. The hops are earthy and a touch floral. Good carbonation. Nice balance. This is one of those beer that I would have sworn I sampled and rated years ago, but somehow this one slipped past me till recently. Kind of mild tasting, that this beer is 8% alcohol is kind of surprising, so I guess you could say that the alcohol is well hidden. Would make a good hard-ore session ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bomber compliments of doboy, the beer pours a deep mahogany color with a small beige head that diminishes quickly to nothing. Aroma is sweet and malty, rich with dark fruits, maple, faint floral notes, and perhaps a bit of molasses. The flavour was yummy, sweet and malty as well with blasts of chocolate, caramel and toffee. Decently balanced with some great, astringent hops. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, dry, crisp finish. Gee, thanks Ed!

Lighter color than most scotch ales unless I am confusing scotch with scottish. This was not brown but dark orange. It smelled like a strong ale and almost reminded me of a barleywine. Taste was ok but I am not sure I would revisit this again. There was just something thin about it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-02-2008 02:45:26
