Bitter, "dirty", earthy taste. Average, but I’d try it again. TheRealBastard (142), The-No, California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2009 A- Off-white, creamy head that is mostly diminishing; excellent lacing throughout; hazy thinlight-brown orange hue
S- Big caramel malty nose, roasted nuttiness, moderate alcohol presence, subtle fruity and chocolate tones
T- Sweet caramel malt dominates, mellow sweet (honey?) in the middle, finishes up with a slightly dry, sweet aftertaste
M- Full and thick body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation
D- Well balanced Scotch Ale, nice caramel malt feel with subtle roastiness and short finish. Easy to drink, alcohol feel quite subtle despite 8% ABV. This is a solid entry in the Scotch Ale genre, but not quite top-tier. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Taste 2/9 Bottle. Looks: Red/tea body with a thin top. Aroma: Caramel malt. Taste: A little wood and yeast over the caramel malt. Scotch ale astringent. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Pours murky dark copper with a fizzy thin head that fades rather quickly to nothing. Aroma is grainy, nutty, earthy, fresh cut pine, caramel. Flavor is grainy malt, whole grain sauteed in butter, cornstalk. Finish is dry, mineral, earthy bitterness and a bit abrasive. Hides 8%abv really well. Body is sweet and medium thick leading to a watery thin finish. Really strange stuff. JohnC (2282), Mission Viejo, California, USA

Dark red pour, starts a bit malty but has a dry finish. interesting take on a scotch ale. nick76 (2674), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 29, 2009 The aroma is malty with caramel, nuts, yeast, butter, and grain husks. The appearance is dark amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a little bit of a card board taste but not much. The palate is smooth. Overall a good beer.
