I had this on draft at the brewpub. Dark red pour, starts a bit malty but has a dry finish. interesting take on a scotch ale.

The aroma is malty with caramel, nuts, yeast, butter, and grain husks. The appearance is dark amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a little bit of a card board taste but not much. The palate is smooth. Overall a good beer.

The alcohol is hidden really well. it may not taste strong but it has a lot of flavor. deep malts with caramel and slightly nutty. not to big on the hop front. very tasty.

22oz bomber.Hazy brown pour with a small head and minimal lacing. Nose was of earth, pine and spice. Flavor was a little off - the elements did not seem to mesh. Mouthfeel was pedestrian. What finish there was recapitulated the nose, but faded quickly

Bottle courtesy of Dazale. Pours reddish brown with a thin white head. Smells of fruit, some earthy hints. Tastes of earth, tea, some caramel. Average.

22 oz. bottle. Tasted at cellar temperature. Pours a tan thin head of short duration, slight lacing, over a clear amber body...nose is of mild malts, slight caramel, minimal hops....taste is off with minimal malt complexity and a (perhaps) over hopped bitter finish when slight sweetness would seem somewhat more appropriate....mouthfeel is quite good, with carbonation making it creamy and a medium feel overall. The complexity of the malt back bone wasn’t there. Try Belhaven’s "Wee Heavy" to see how it can be done.

Tasted side by side with a homebrewed Scotch Ale. Poured from a bomber with nice tan head and dark amber color. Sweet aroma of caramel, good taste, nothing exceptional, but definitely drinkable. The homebrew was better. Need to try the AleSmith next.

750ml bottle. um...so i poured 1/2 of this bottle into a pint glass. didn’t smell very inviting. tastes like shit. i took two gulps and pours the rest down the drain. let the bottle sit for like 10 mins thinking the temp might improve the taste. poured the rest into the glass and had the same reaction. this is the first beer i haven’t been able to finish in a long time. disgusting.
