The appearance is dark amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a little bit of a card board taste but not much. The palate is smooth. Overall a good beer. Nose was of earth, pine and spice. Flavor was a little off - the elements did not seem to mesh. Mouthfeel was pedestrian. What finish there was recapitulated the nose, but faded quickly Cletus (5059), Connecticut, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 18, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Tasted at cellar temperature. Pours a tan thin head of short duration, slight lacing, over a clear amber body...nose is of mild malts, slight caramel, minimal hops....taste is off with minimal malt complexity and a (perhaps) over hopped bitter finish when slight sweetness would seem somewhat more appropriate....mouthfeel is quite good, with carbonation making it creamy and a medium feel overall. The complexity of the malt back bone wasn’t there. Try Belhaven’s "Wee Heavy" to see how it can be done. larryLSB (166), La Selva Beach, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Tasted side by side with a homebrewed Scotch Ale. Poured from a bomber with nice tan head and dark amber color. Sweet aroma of caramel, good taste, nothing exceptional, but definitely drinkable. The homebrew was better. Need to try the AleSmith next. phobos1031 (71), Paradise, Nevada, USA
