The flavor was heavy sweet malt and brown sugar. Thick mouthfeel. This beer bordered on cloying as it was a bit on the too sweet side...did not improve as it warmed, just got sweeter. Very mild hopping and no earthy or peaty notes which I dig in my Scottish Ales. Ok beer. littlecarp (128), Redding, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Very potent - fills the mouth with flavor. Finish has heavy sweetness with slight wood chip or pine notes. Aroma is weak. Initial flavor is subtle with some grainy hints. Insignificant head, but a great amber color that is slightly opaque. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2008 2007 bomber bottle. Pours a nice, clear deep reddish amber, with a modest dense light tan head that dissipates almost immediately, leaving minimal lacing. Aroma include toffee and nuts and some solventy alcohol. Nutty aroma is dominant and a bit cloying. Flavor is very sweet with some alcohol burn in the finish. Malty but lacking the complexity you want out of a good strong scotch ale. Palate is smooth but light - too light and watery. Medium carb. Certainly drinkable and somewhat interesting, but not a particularly good scotch ale. KnN (743), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Had this at a beer tasting at the Perfect Pour in Columbia, MD. Might not be the best person to judge this as Scotch ales aren’t among my favorite. This one wasn’t bad. Good malt flavor and a nice orange color. The iodine and peat kind of kill this one for me. Good choice if you like the style. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 pours a dark caramel color with a one finger creamy tan head. aroma is toasted caramel malt with a touch of hops and dark fruits. it has a medium to heavy body with descent lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and has some peat to it. it is somewhat oily on the palate and a bit flat, but not to bad of a scotch ale. the malt sticks to the tongue for a bit. as it warms there is some maple syrup aroma and flavor, and the aroma does get a bit stronger. this is not my style but from the other couple of scotch ales i have had this is underrated. might i also add that this brewery puts out really good beers and especially for the price, anywhere from $3.99-$5.69 a bomber! ucusty (1896), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 16, 2008 pours dark red with light head. malty aroma spicy overtones. nothing that sets it apart from other scotch ales, however it is well balanced and very tasty jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Pours lightly hazy red with gold-orange highlights. Meaty, smoky aroma without venturing into the plastic-y stuff I get from some Scotch Ales. Hints of spicy hops and alcohol. Rich, malty flavor with a good deal of smoke and iodine. Alcohol is a bit too apparent, but this is a well-done brew. NobleSquirrel (1114), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Nose is kind of cool, smells like I just opened my mash tun. Taste is pretty roasty, distinct peat smoked flavors. Nice.
