Pours lightly hazy red with gold-orange highlights. Meaty, smoky aroma without venturing into the plastic-y stuff I get from some Scotch Ales. Hints of spicy hops and alcohol. Rich, malty flavor with a good deal of smoke and iodine. Alcohol is a bit too apparent, but this is a well-done brew.

Nose is kind of cool, smells like I just opened my mash tun. Taste is pretty roasty, distinct peat smoked flavors. Nice.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse Charlottesville. Rating from notes written whilst wasted, so we’ll see how this goes. Pours a ruby color. No head to speak of, and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel and beans. Taste more of the same... strong beans (the peat, I guess) and sweet malt. Odd.

Pours a dark amber/red with a lovely creamy tan head. Smells like slightly smoked caramel malt. Very sweet with bitter dark fruit, earthy. Flavors are not as bold or robust as better examples, and not much of a woody taste/finish. Subtle but balanced scotch ale, but extremely one dimensional. Excellent body, very smooth with medium/full weight. Not quite as sticky as some suggest. This beer is crafted very well... too bad the flavor doesn’t keep par.

Pours a slight bit hazy with a tawny brown and dark cedar/copper color. Fruity pennies up front, turning slightly sour, with a light, peaty note of maple and caramelized peanuts. Not good – just a bit peaty, a bad peaty – some sour grains and nuts, and a slick, oily, tinny flavor in the finish. Do not want.

22oz bottle, courtesy of artusory. Thanks, Ryan! Pours a hazy, orange-amber color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Very earthy, dusty, and tea-like in the aroma; tannic; unroasted peanuts (thanks, Mike) show through prominently, oddly enough. Medium mouthfeel: strange, tea-like and peanuty character in the mouth; somewhat drying; a very earthy, goofy scotch ale. Lengthy finish, showing peanuts and some dried fruits and earthiness.

Hazy amber body with a small off-white head. The nose is toffee, raisins and light herbal hops. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and slightly medicinal with green raisins, herbs, nuts and light prunes. Medium/full body is a bit rough with an astringent finish and moderate carbonation.
