Bottle shared by SpringsLicker with myself, Suttree, and decaturstevo. Pours pretty dark rusty amber with decent beige head. The aroma is intense salty nuts, light smoke, Italian spices, and vegetables. The flavor is heavy on the boiled cabbage, but smoke and caramel also play a role. There are some malty and charred notes throughout, too.

There are 12 beers in the Ratebeer data base called "kilt lifter" so I think that name for your scottish is pretty much played out. That name, along with "Downtown Brown" as a name for a brown ale, can now be considered retired, OK? (As a side note, I accidently typed in "klit lifter". Now THAT would be a much more interesting name for a beer...). At any rate, this was pretty good, although I noticed an odd note in the aroma - asperagus or celery or boiled cabbage. It wasn’t unpleasent or anything, just odd. Thanks to Springslicker for this one!

Dark orange color with big head and small lacing. Sweet and hoppy with some malts, but strange overall flavor. Light caramel and a little sour.

22 oz. bottle thanks to a trade with dirty_martini. Pours a cloudy rust color with a moderate biscuit colored head that lasted through most of the glass. Light aroma of sweet malt and caramel along with a some very light citrus. The flavor is mostly sweet malt and caramel with a bit of mocha as well. Medium bodied. A bit overly sweet and lacks the richness and full body I usually think of when I have a scotch ale. A decent beer that doesn’t quite pull it off.

Bottle. A lot of caramel malt in the aroma; a little earthy and smokey. Flavor is the same, malty. Pretty good, but too sweet for me.

Pours a dark brown color with foamy tan head. Aroma is very sweet malt and earthy, kinda like fresh topsoil. Flavor is very very malty and a strong alchol warmth. Slightly peaty and smokey. Good find at the shithole next to my hotel in napa.

Pours a deep dark amber color w/ a full, semi creamy froth. Good hangtime w/ a full ring and canopy for residual lacing. Aromas of sweet biscuits. Medium full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. A moderately sweet and very malty brew w/ a defined biscuiting. Other nuances of cocoa, molases, buckwheat, ginger bread, coffee bean. The finish is bittered only lightly w/ a long coffeecake sweetness. I would not say this was robust and bold. More like fat, sticky, and lazy.
