| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Much better than the Irish Red. Dark pour, and a body with notes of peat moss, dark roast barley, and slight carmel sweetness. One of my new favorite Scotch Ales. Big and comforting. angrypirate06 (773), Texas, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | Sep 20, 2009 Pours a rich and deep amber with slight carbonation and a semi-decent head that leaves sparse lacing on the glass. Aroma is very malty, almost as if someone melted the flakes from a box of raisin bran. A slight sweetness of sugar and candy are barely detectable. Flavor is a malty mush of bran flakes, bready candy, and a vegetable medley finish. Thick, coating mouthfeel. Not what I want in a scotch ale. Not at all. mar (1883), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Bottle. Orange/brown colored pour with a tan head on it. Smell is roasted and sweet with malts. Taste is kind of watery and thin, somewhat sweet. Not very memorable. Kind of overly sweet with a fair amount of alcohol burn. Not the best scotch ale I have had by any stretch. thirdeye11 (545), Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 19, 2009 ( 22oz bomber thanks to swalden28) Pours medium orange, good lacing and a film of oily bubbles on top. Nose of toasted sweet malts, light corn. Taste of lightly burnt toast, nice roast/toast malt and lingers with honey. Decently thick body. adavis234 (133), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a copper/amber with a thin white head. Has that odd sort of spicy, sort of sweet aroma that seems to characterize scotch ales. Taste is the same, sweet but malty with a crisp, alcohol infused body. I’ve always been ambivalent about scotch ales. Something about them intrigues me, while never totally blowing me away and this brew is the same.
