This is an enjoyable drink, but I’m not sure why it’s a Scotch Ale, except for the ever-so-original, cute name. It pours a hazy chestnut body with an initially creamy beige head that soon turns to an off-white film. The aroma is fresh baked bread with caramel. It’s a chewingly thick drink, full bodied. The flavor is caramel and toffee and butterscotch with a hint of alcohol lurking in the background. But there’s no trace of the peat smoke that one usually associates with the style. Make no mistake, I like it. I merely question the labelling.

Hazy brown color with a nice loose, creamy head and a nutty/grainy aroma. Lightly roasted, nutty malt flavors come through clearly. Well-balanced alcohol character gives way to a dry, slightly bitter finish.

Tasty and strong! Small aroma but what is there is good. Very dark, rich brownish red color. Flavor is excellent combination of malt, bread and caramel. Palate was lacking, felt like water in the mouth. Overall very enjoyable.

thanks to Saarlander for the bomber. pour is a hazy brown with a fast fading tan head. aroma is of caramel and some hops. flavor is malty but I didn’t really feel it lived up to the commercial description of being "Big, Robust & Bold". a decent brew, but once on the tongue, it just kind of sits there, without developing further.

On tap at California Brewfest. This dark amber ale poured with a short tan head. Tastes like a scotch ale should - balanced malt and caramel peat enhanced flavor.

pours a dark amber... the aroma is of sweet caramel and brown sugar... very smooth with medium carbonation... kinda watery with a sweet burst of caramel in the finish... doesn’t have a lingering aftertaste... enjoyable for an occasional indulgence but I couldn’t drink more than one and wouldn’t drink it often.

this brew smells very inviting. Scents of butterscotch and brown sugar. Moderately carbonated. Fizzy if you will. Sweet aftertaste. Don’t know if i could drink more than one in an evening.

Pretty mahogany to chestnut red-brown. Good 2-fingered head, lasts a bit, nice lace. Smells of fresh grasses, earth, hops, herbs, smoke, toffee ,smoke, maltose, yeast.and caramel. Tastes include earth, peat, smoky malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, honey, banana, raisens, and currants with a solid bitterness finish. While the bitterness was apparent, I didn’t taste much of the hops. I got a little bit of yeast, too. Balance, however, is definitely on the malt side. This is a nice peat-smoke, malty ale. Mouthfeel is good, the tiniest bit thin. Effervescent and refreshing, with a slightly metallic aftertaste which abated as it warmed.
