| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2009 22oz. bomber served in a shaker pint glass. Poured a light amber with a finger of tight bubbled off white head. Big malty aroma with caramel. Flavor is more of the same. Toffee and caramel maltiness. On the fuller side of medium bodied. Flavors came out a lot better as it warmed. I didn’t really write down a whole lot about this one, but if you enjoy a malty beer, give this one a try. Good take on the style. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a deep copper to medium brown color, with a slightly off-white head. Strong aromas of English crystal malts come through in the nose, as does what seems like some Munich malt. Hops don’t really make themselves known in the nose, nor in the palate. The latter is full in the mouth, giving a really nice level of malt complexity. The finish is slightly sweet, but not cloying. Alcohol is not detectable at any point. Overall, a well-crafted and well-designed beer. amp811 (38), Charleston, South Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 16, 2009 I don’t know what everyone else’s deal is, this beer is fantastic. It’s not quite as good as the Smuttynose Scotch, but it can certainly satisfy that need for a truly malty, sweet, slightly smoky Scotch Ale. It actually feels somewhere between a Brown and a Scotch, and I love it.
